No considerarion for Non-Dutch speakers. If you don’t speak Dutch, you’ll get 6 densly written, small print pages and a small torch to read. Off you go for sometimes 20min in one room without any pointers, plaques, illustrations, modern-day-exhibit video/animation/projection/illumination… And yes, this a replica of the Roman catacombs, not the real deal of course, but none of the effort and art of presentation went into this as e.g. in Lascaux Ii or Grotte Chauvet 2. Don’t go here if you are not Dutch - especially not with kids/teens.

We had to take a guided tour to see the catacombs. The tour was mandatory but the explanations were not in English - only Dutch. There was only a brochure to read. Worse, the guide left out several parts, including the most important ones, leaving us unable to explore or learn about them ourselves as we were not supposed to leave the tour. Considering the entrance fee of 16 euros, I did not expect this answer: we were short on time and could not see some parts.👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

English speakers and internationals beware....our tour was only offered in Dutch which was not clear when booking. Spent €16 to stand listening to a very enthusiastic tour guide speak for an hour and a half straight. Wish there was an audio tour option or a specific tour for English speakers and internationals. Also, more time to explore and look around. The caves were interesting but the museum failed to engage.

The Valkenburg Catacombs are a full-on replica of the ones in Rome, copied down to tiny details. Long corridors, carved chapels, paintings — it really feels like stepping into the real thing. It’s impressive, a bit morbid, and very dark. You get a little lantern to carry, which is fun, but also a reminder to stick close to the group or you’ll lose your way fast.

It’s cold underground, so bring a coat. There’s no English-speaking guide, only an information sheet in English, so most of the storytelling is lost if you don’t understand Dutch. Kids won’t enjoy it — mine didn’t. It’s slow and heavy. Better for adults, history lovers, or religious visitors who’ll find meaning in the atmosphere.

Staff are friendly, the place is well cared for, and the detail really does transport you. Not a cheerful outing, but if you’re into history, religion, or unusual sites, this is one of the most striking experiences you’ll...

spoiler: It is a replica of Roman Catacombs. Beware : They only have Dutch tours. So "if you do not speak/understand Dutch then you will be just spectator for 1.5 hrs". The guide do not speak in English for more than 5% of his time. It will be a painful time even if they provide you with English translation.

However if you're a Dutch speaker then this tour is worth taking. Even if the museum is a replica, you will get to know a lot about Roman conversion to Christianity and insights of the culture while it was in the state integration between ancient and Christian religions.

Moreover the sorrounding nature is awesome on any sunny day.

Do wear some warm clothes as it is going to be cold down there.

Kids won't enjoy it though. This was my...
