The lighthouse was sited in another location in the past.Now it is easy to get to on 3 different walks. It is by the railway track so look for the bridge to cross over on. The history is written up. The site provides great view of Caroline Bay and to the north and another walk along the coast. Good site to capture Timaru by photographs. Lots of native trees and some exotic trees around the lighthouse. Navigation aid is now a large triangle visible to the ocean . In 1980 the Timaru Harbour Board moved the tower from its original position at No 7 The Terrace to a site at Maori Park.
