Step back in time. A tranquil gardens and homestead. Beautiful set out gardens, with Avon River flowing through - ducks and geese, very clear water. A number of bridge, lights looking like gas lanterns. Some lovely statues pieces. This place has plenty to offer. Come for the pantry or bring a picnic. Loved the old bath house - wish it was restored to its former glory. Homestead has been repaired from the earthquakes and is looking stunning. Rose garden - the smell. The lily pond is green - no flowers as yet. And the Summer Indian Tea House tucked away in a corner is sublime. The plants have been catologued in some places so if you like what you see you can go and buy. Parking onsite. Toilets on site. Punting also at certain times. This is a well maintained treasure. Looked out for the derelict railway station platform. There are gems all over this garden. I only had a brief 30 minute stop prior to dinner.

This is a racist tea house! we arrived at 14:50 on a Sunday afternoon and was told that by the lady called Samantha that they are closing in 10 mins, and we can only order the drink from the take away menu. I asked if I could take a look of the menu and she said NO, BECAUSE THE KITCHEN HAS CLOSED. 10 minutes later another group of four Caucasian entered the tea house and were received the full attention. They were seated by the windrow with full attention and offered a proper menu. I thought they are closing at 3pm?! The worst place in Christchurch. I don't want the tea house to feel surprised with the one star score and I went back to speak to Samantha again and it turned out that she is the manager of the tea house. She apologised and offered the menu to us now but we were not in the mood of having the tea again so we didn't dine there. Maybe it's the inconsistency of the staff training. But if I were to come back again, I'll wear my for formal suit next time.

This park is so nice ! Flowers 🌺 were in bloom and it was beautiful. It's free to just walk around and enjoy the flowers. I was surprised to see so much flora in the Fall. We went on a weekend afternoon, it was peaceful and relaxing. Plenty of people doing their own thing from taking photos as well 😍. I came here with a friend for the rose garden they have. It's a really lovely place and it's surprisingly quiet even though it faces two major streets . It's a great place to have a nice day out without breaking the bank or going out too far! Well cared for large rose gardens with a wide variety of species. The grounds themselves make a great place to take photos and or relax. The center of the garden has a large fountain to branch out from and explore. There are several gazebos on the grounds that provide shade for sitting and well smelling the roses 🌹😍

Mona Vale is a public park of 4 ha in the Christchurch suburb of Fendalton. The homestead and gate house are both listed as heritage buildings with Heritage New Zealand (NZHPT). The fernery and the rose garden, and pavilion with the setting of the park along the Avon River, add to the attractiveness of the property. It is one of the major tourist attractions in Christchurch. A visit to Christchurch is incomplete without visiting this local park. It is just across the street from Hagley park, which is another big park located in the heart of the city. The Avon river flows through the park, and it is always relaxing to just see the flow of the water, or ducks that are swimming around. I live just on the edge of these parks, so I always take advantage of this when I need some time to relax by enjoying the flowers, plants, and fresh air in the park.

Mona Vale is beautiful all year round, though bear in mind the lawns can be very muddy and boggy in winter. Last week the magnolias were out and they were magnificent. It takes only about 20 minutes to meander through the park, and a bit longer if you look around the individual gardens. There are seats by the river where you can relax, and a café called The Pantry in the historic Mona Vale homestead. There aren't a lot of tables here and both times I've tried to walk in on a weekend morning, they've been fully booked - so book! However, we were able to sit outside instead, which was nice in the sun despite being about 9°C. There is a menu and a nice range of cabinet food. It's one of the few places you can buy a single scone with jam and cream, yum yum!

The place it’s beautiful and well kept. The sound of water, the little bridges, the trees, everything is really pleasing to eyes. I was there today (early October) on perfect warm day. I stayed there for 3 hours. The food I ordered for lunch was chicken its was tasty, big portion, fresh. The food was not greasy , just the right level of tenderness. Just my Personal preference, I would have liked the chicken on a plate rather than a bowl, because my cutlery was making noise. 😂 The staff is so polite. It’s for all ages. If you are meeting up with some, the easiest is to meet at the cafe, rather than the entrance because there are multiple entrances.
