They are not helpful to those with disabilities. For the last 3 years I have been housebound and only able to travel the 800 metres between my house and Highbury mall due to a series of serious heart issues.
I have been so delighted to have a new mobility scooter which has allowed me to use busses and get to places outside of this tiny area.
I was rushing as my watch was telling me I was having a cardiac event, but I just needed to get to my last shop.
While the mall employee was very nice, she forced me to either walk the 900 metres back to use the mall branded mobility scooter, walk and push my scooter, or leave.
I had only to go another 200 metres so I tried to walk, but lost vision and nearly blacked out as I was having a serious Bradycardia (heart stoppage) and a severe attack of Afibrillation (My heart rate was alarming at at 210bpm.)
I collapsed onto some cafe seating and lost consciousness and moved the tables and chairs slightly while I tried to stabilise myself.
I slowed my breathing and tried to gain control, and then got up and moved the table and chair the 6 inches or so that they had moved.
The cafe owner was clearly furious that I had sat in his chairs without being a customer and glared at me.
I tried to walk the last part but lost vision 2 more times and half collapsed in my last shop so had to leave, still needing to walk and push my scooter to get out of the mall, in order to get to a clear place to get to the hospital.
I just wanted to buy some underpants as Highbury doesn't sell them and it's been years since I have been able to go shopping in a broader range.
Highbury mall, Shore City, Commercial bay, Countdown have all spoken to me and said its completely fine to use the scooter inside so from now on I will just go there instead I will not be back to Glenfield Mall. It felt degrading, embarrasing and frustrating to not be able to just get the last thing on my list. She was very...
Read moreHaven't been to this mall in years, maybe even a decade! But it was familiar, yet also improved. The parking is still the same, it's best to just go with it, still jot sure why all the reserved parking is at top carpark 🙃 but atleast there were lots of parking space when we went in. The food choices are really diverse and fantastic, there's decadent looking cafes which had plenty of seating, a trendy looking Vietnamese restaurant on the top floor, mexican food, indian, kebabs, katsubi, Chinese, fish and chips and even a cupcake shop. We got the katsubi which was life changing! I also like that there are food places on different levels of the mall. We went into footlocker and the staff there on Sunday were really helpful and friendly. The whole culture , in fact, of Glenfield mall was really friendly and I found myself wanting to stay there for longer and just peruse! Many retail shops were new and improved except some of the good oldies were still floating around too. The shops weren't shops i have seen before, many were nom franchised and unique. There were a lot of popular franchises too. The layout of the mall was easy and flowing and although it was busy , it didnt seem over crowded. For children, they had little bursts of entertainment on the middle floor with characters from "Frozen" offering laughs and a cute photo moment. The whole ambience was really nice. The toilets were easy to find and were clean. I think a revisit...
