Mount Richmond is a fantastic place to explore in Auckland. It is a wonderful location filled with a mix of exotic and native NZ trees and home to many birds. Sad to say that the Tupuna Maunga Authority have their sights set on felling all the exotic trees that are home to many insects and birds and a valuable resource in our climate change World, which is very short sighted. The latest example of such short sightedness us the TMA's overplanting of the sports field, which is used by two rugby clubs, so that shrubs can grow but the kids can no longer play rugby. This was extremely disappointing to see. I'd recommend people go and walk the cones of Mt Richmond now and enjoy it before it is irrevocably changed by the TMA...
Read moreInteresting spot this.Steep and rough, almost unkempt.Views to the city, Manukau Harbour, overlooks sports grounds on eastern side. Lots of fallen trees, long grass. Theres a water tower, unmarked tracks, parking on the western side, and another sports field. A sign saying a track was unauthorised was lying on the ground, a sensitive area has been disturbed. Definitely a sense of...
Read moreAn absolute wonder! a very quiet walk almost as if you’re not in the city. You’ll be lucky to find 3 or more people at this location, goes by unnoticed as it’s situated between two highways. An old Scoria Quarry with scars to prove! Great views of both the Manukau Harbour and Tamaki River. Has a sealed track for those brisk walks and a grass path for those wanting to reach the summit! highly recommend you add this to the list of mountains to...
