One Tree Hill is an Auckland must-do, offering breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across the city and harbor. The climb to the summit is a moderate hike, rewarding you with stunning vistas that make every step worthwhile. The park itself is beautifully maintained, with lush green spaces perfect for picnics or simply relaxing and enjoying the scenery.
Historically significant, the area is steeped in Māori heritage, with remnants of an ancient pā site adding a layer of cultural depth to the experience. The iconic One Tree Hill, or Maungakiekie, is a volcanic peak, and its unique landscape provides a fascinating geological backdrop. The park is ideal for a leisurely afternoon, offering a blend of natural beauty, cultural significance, and stunning photo opportunities.
Whether you're a local or a visitor, One Tree Hill is a must-visit destination. It's a place where you can connect with nature, learn about history, and soak in some of the best views Auckland has to offer. Pack a picnic, bring your camera, and prepare...
Read moreTo be clear, I'm making this comments as a foreigner tourist and all my suggestions are also offered to those who travel to Auckland for the first time. In such a scenario, One Tree Hill definitely is not a good option for tourists. Let alone It's remote location from the city center, which requires much time to take and change buses if you're not drinving, the whole scene is disappointing regarding its fame. There's no the "One Tree" on the hill, but many trees instead, and the lamps and cows from other visitors' postings are hard to find. It would also be a long-time exhausted hiking if you don't take any shortcuts. All in all, it's totally not worthwhile to travel specially for it. I would rather recommend the Mount Eden, which has an alien landscape and amazing 360 degree sight view over the whole...
Read moreAwesome place for a day's visit. Lots of open spaces for children to play around. Very easily accessible. Parking can be a problem on busy weekends. Edit - June 2025 Over so many years, this has been a go to place for us, whenever we feel to have an outing but can't decide where to go. The playground has been well maintained over the years. Parking can still be an issue, since the place is so popular. The open spaces and the train ride in the playground are awesome for kids. Proximity to the One Tree Hill summit walk track is a bonus and one can easily spend half a day in this area. Sheep and cattle watching is an interesting activity for urban kids who get a taste of farmlands right in the centre of the city. Long walk tracks are also demarcated and well maintained in here. Highly recommended for a...
