Nice view from the top. It has a lot of cultural significance. Keep in mind it is all walking from the entrance and somewhat steep. Be aware there are no facilities at the top of the hill, i.e. bathrooms, water etc. so plan accordingly. There are facilities at the bottom by the visitor center. For that matter, there is a Bistro Steakhouse there too. (When I visited however, the kitchen had closed almost an hour before advertised, so all the had was snacks and small dishes). There is a museum and other buildings near the bottom as well. Take a few minutes and visit. It wont take long and has some good information about the area. The grounds themselves are large. They have a lot of nice hiking trails. Great area for picnics as well.

Awesome place on a sunny day for a picnic or get together.. Oodles of space to let the kids run wild. It even accommodates a working cattle and sheep farm which is quite unique on DOC land I've been told... You can head up to the summit of One Tree Hill for a breathtaking 360° view of Auckland. On a clear day you can see for miles. (If you are physically less abled you may wish to arrange access, as the road up to the summit, is pedestrians and cyclists only now).. There is a picnic area with wood & electric BBQ facilities provided for public use, along with picnic table/seats for convenience... One of the gems of Auckland Parks... Enjoy....

To be clear, I'm making this comments as a foreigner tourist and all my suggestions are also offered to those who travel to Auckland for the first time. In such a scenario, One Tree Hill definitely is not a good option for tourists. Let alone It's remote location from the city center, which requires much time to take and change buses if you're not drinving, the whole scene is disappointing regarding its fame. There's no the "One Tree" on the hill, but many trees instead, and the lamps and cows from other visitors' postings are hard to find. It would also be a long-time exhausted hiking if you don't take any shortcuts. All in all, it's totally not worthwhile to travel specially for it. I would rather recommend the Mount Eden, which has an alien landscape and amazing 360 degree sight view over the whole city center.

One Tree Hill is comparable to Mount Eden for views of Auckland. The views of the city and surrounding area was breathtaking. If you park at the bottom of the hill where the play area is it's a bit of a walk to the top. You do have the option to park part way up and also all the way up to the top. There is a lot of foot traffic to drive all the way up and it's not always available to go all the way up. The park at the bottom and this hike up are both dog and kid friendly. There are also off the beaten path trails you take if you don't want to stick to the road. Highly recommend stopping by if you need an afternoon adventure in Auckland.

The wind whispers secrets through the pines, Of battles fought and legends entwined. One Tree Hill stands, a sentinel bold, A story etched in history untold. The city sleeps beneath its watchful gaze, A tapestry of lights in a hazy daze. From its peak, a panoramic view, Of harbors shimmering, a vibrant hue. The Maungawhau, a sacred ground, Where ancestors rest, peace profound. A place of solace, a place to roam, A connection deep to this ancient home. One Tree Hill, a symbol strong and true, Of resilience, of spirit anew. A reminder of the past, a hope for the future's grace, A timeless landmark, in this ever-changing space.

Love this place! It’s my back garden!! I love going for daily walks and seeing the sheep and cows going about their day! Lots of people making use of this beautiful park, walking, catching up with friends or family get togethers! Here they have BBQs for use and picnic tables spread out around the park! They have a cafe, a bistro and coffee shed (at the side of the bistro) for peoples pleasure and the coffee, food and treats are great. The summit is now car free unless you have disabled or people with limited mobility then you can get up, it’s a good workout and the views are stunning!
