I have been a member of several gyms over the years, tried cheap alternatives to my usual which was the main les mills on corner dixon and taranaki, Wellington. City Fitness is the best and here are my reasons. But before I go through the list, the one thing that bothered me about other gyms are those assisted machines. Some are so unnatural moving they actually do more harm then good, however the ones at City fitness pass the test. Some assisted machines there to me are pointless like arm curl machines and others that feel weird, but it's an easy fix by using cables or free weights.

Read moreBe careful when you take out a 12 month membership. I had the option of paying weekly or a full 12 month upfront payment. I choose the full update front payment. What I wasn't told and seems unfair is that after 12 months I have to take out a new full year membership. If I had paid weekly after 12 months my membership would rollover and I could cancel with a months notice. I paid upfront as I didn't want all the direct debits on my bank account. Read moreSecond time I joined this gym and they didn't set up my card access properly. Same thing happened when I first joined 2 years ago. I could not enter the gym one evening. The next day the staff member resolved the issue but didn't make any apology, he simply handed me a form saying you need to sign this(declaration that I won't let anybody else in), well why wasn't I given the form when I joined? Waste of time.
