Grand Casino — Attraction in Otago

Have gone to the casino for several years and was a regular. Prior to the rebrand there were great deals for members, the restaurant had nightly deals, staff were super friendly and engaging. Birthdays were an event for lots of members for their birthday month for food and drink. When the place changed to the Grand we went in for a meal and asked for a doggy bag to take the remaining food as we wanted to order a dessert as well, the staff said no, we weren’t allowed to take our food from the premises (our food that we’d paid for). That was the last time I ate there. I went there last night for a go on the machines, on my birthday. It was the casinos 26th year birthday. The place was quite busy but nothing about the place seemed special. The hourly prizes were dull and lacked any real thought. The restaurant (that you have to book now since becoming the Grand) had only a sprinkle of people in it. The thing that annoyed me the most about the place is that none of the machines I played/saw allowed anyone to gamble a win, I mean, we are there to gamble, why take this feature away from the machines? That was the last straw for me, I’ll never go back to this place that was my 2-3 nights per week prior to being the Grand, to maybe once every 6 months after changing over. The rating was 3 but after the rant about there rules I brought it to a 2. Do better and change with the times if you want people to come and gamble.

This casino has a lovely interior and alot of space for tables and pokies for a city Dunedins size. But thats where the good stuff end. They're table displays are of a low standard where you cant see some of the table mins unless you get in everyone's way. There's not much space to walk behind other people as they play roulette, and blackjack which is right at the front. You cant gamble features on the machines. And biggest gripe is that this casinos still stuck in the 2000's with photo or filming rules. Cant even take a photo of the pokie your playing and send to your mates without them stopping you and telling you to delete. The difficulty of taking my friend out to eat is that she can cook better than Gordon Ramsay and many others. Compliments to the lunch chef today, Tuesday. If you are young consider the multiple options ahead of you. If your retiring gradually, you have chosen very well. The steak was perfectly cooked just as I asked for it. A touch on the rare side of medium/rare. It melted in my toothless mouth. Divine, though the sauce needed a little bacon or something. The steamed vegetables were cooked to perfection. The chips were the best I've tasted in Dunedin in a very long time. Thank you it was a pleasure to eat your food. I admit I was wondering when there would be a call to the pokies or some gambling, but it never came. I could see some machines but couldn't hear them. This added to the pleasure of the meal. We...
