First thing I want to make clear, this is NOT intended as a negative review - however, from previous experience of boutique hotels all over the world, this is most certainly NOT a boutique hotel, I would hesitate to describe it as a hotel, it is far more a fairly basic B & B. Reception is only manned at certain hours, if you have a problem outside those hours, we didn't see any emergency contact no. so you'd be on your own. The parking is adequate for the likely no. of vehicles, but if you drive in forwards, then unless you're driving something VERY small, you'll be reversing out! Breakfast they deliver to your room the afternoon before - a selection of cereals, waffles, milk, orange juice etc. - perfectly adequate, but not like the delicious fresh cooked or fresh fruit breakfast you might expect from a boutique hotel - there is no communal dining area, in fact apart from reception no communal area at all|It's a couple of miles out of downtown, so you'd have a long walk for sightseeing or the rail station. There are quite a no. of takeaways fairly locally, but didn't find a proper restaurant within sensible walking distance.|On the positive side, if you take it as a 2 to 3 star B & B, the rooms are spacious, the bathroom/shower perfectly adequate, the bed was comfortable & everything was clean - a table lamp wasn't working but I confirmed it was the bulb by swapping with the other unit, & got another bulb from reception, which took a fair time, so I doubt had we asked for maintenance to do it, it would have been done that day & we were only there for the 1 night!|All in all, an OK stay, but I don't feel the description of the B &...
Read moreWe received a friendly welcome at the Highland House Boutique Hotel and the service was extremely attentive throughout our week-long stay. There are several car parks on the hotel grounds, as well as in the surrounding streets.|The city's sights and the university are a pleasant walk away. The magnificent botanical garden with its rose garden is just over 5 minutes away. The Otago Peninsula with its Albatrosses can be reached in a short hours drive.|Our family apartment offered enough space for the three of us in the two rooms and was very clean. The small kitchenette enabled us to prepare a good breakfast and heat up a delicious take-away dinner two or three times. The first breakfast provided by the hotel was good value for money.|The room service was exemplary and we were very satisfied with the service provided by the young staff member in every respect.|We have already stayed at the Highland House at the beginning of 2017 and can recommend this small hotel in beautiful historic walls. We will be...
Read moreThe bed is super comfortable, the amplitud of the room is also very nice, the heating works very well, internet works fine, there is a bus stop just outside the hotel that you can take to go to the city center as it is a fairly 25 minutes walking, so yes you are far, I didnt use the breakfast as my room had a kitchen and a table and fridge, so went to the supermarket that is like 12 minutes walking and got all needed so cant tell...the hotel has private parking at no additional cost, be aware that there is no restaurant at the hotel, neither 24 hours front desk, this is more like a motel with good bed and much better...
