Absolutely fantastic time. We started the day with Grace for a bird tour of Ulva island. She is such a fantastic guide and it was great to see just how excited she was to find the different species for us. She was totally ok going at our pace and super nice about answering all the questions. Absolutely fantastic guide. Ask for her if you get a chance and you won't be disappointed. Ended the day with a night kiwi tour. Again, our guide Dan was fantastic. He also genuinely cared about what he was doing. We searched high and low and found kiwi and even got to see a territory fight between two kiwi. He was also very conscientious about making sure everyone in the group was ok and stayed safe while walking at night. I also appreciate how helpful the company was as we were coming in the off-season. They responded to my emails and messages promptly and made sure that everything was taken care of. These two guides are exemplary and a credit to the company they work for, and the person who managed the responses and emails is fantastic. Absolutely the...
Read moreDefinitely worth booking with Ulva's Guided Walks! We did the evening kiwi spotting and Ulva Island half day tour. Both our tour guides, Ian and Matt, were amazing: extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and full of funny and amazing stories. The tours were highly informative and we learned a lot about kiwi's, plants and trees, history and basically everything we saw on Ulva Island! Moreover, Matt succeeded in finding every bird we were interested in and even more.
The evening kiwi spotting tour was super exciting: silently waiting in the dark for the kiwi's to show up. Ian was, as well, extremely knowledgeable and we highly enjoyed this trip. Because we did not get to see good sights of the kiwi's (according to him, we were already amazed by spotting the first kiwi's bum!) he decided to take us on the next evening again. This was well appreciated.
Thanks Ulva's Guided Walks, please keep up...
Read moreWe booked the Ulva Island trip and Kiwi spotting through Ulva's Guided Walks. They were very communicative leading up to our visit, and then when the weather turned sideways during our visit they very persistently worked to get a hold of us and helped us rebook our tours to avoid the worst of the weather. Ulva island is amazing and offered a great chance to see so many of the unique birds of NZ that we came here to see. Our bird guide was also a plant nerd, and she pointed out so many fun orchids and mosses that we never would have noticed otherwise - definitely made having the guide worth it.
On the Kiwi spotting excursion, our guide was very determined to help us find a kiwi, but we were unlucky and were apparently one of the very very few groups who didn't get a glimpse of one. Even so, we got to see a Morepork and a little blue Penguin coming to shore - so it was still an...
