I wish to edit the very annoyed post I put up ( see below) after getting rid of the cake, and having to find another, at added expense: So this cake was not so good. But after the Caker owner set out a very concerned and detailed reply to my review ( see below) , I thought about the true test of human character , which is that when something goes wrong, humans show who they truly are. Those with character rise to the challenge and seek to improve. In this case, the owner showed herself to be dedicated to her business and to producing quality, and deeply concerned at a customer's seemingly- rare disappointment in her products. She even offered a free cake- which I won't take up- but just quietly, in the coming months, I will return to the shop and buy another type of cake, and put up an equally honest review... and I suspect, given her passionate stand for producing quality, as evidenced in her reply to me , that the next cakes off the block at her shop will be the very mouthwatering and moist and delicious offerings which my friends told me about before I had this one-off bad experience. So a bouquet to her for showing so much passion and care in her reply to my poor review ( below) and I will certainly buy another one in future and give praise when and if it is due..... and she so emphatically stresses that it is. A quality woman will produce quality - and passion like this must lead to better things. ( And here is my earlier review) The banana chocolate vegan cake was two things: really expensive and really disappointing. It was dry- like stick- in -your- gums- as -you -chew- it dry.. The flavour reminded me of the smell of cardboard after a day in the sun, with a touch of heavy chocolate smeared stubbornly in there. The taste combination was oppressive. Any banana- if indeed there had been one- seemed to have given up and gone home. This cake shop was highly recommended to me.... but for $70 - a hefty price point- I expected something mouthwatering and moist and utterly delectable. It was far far from those things. I cannot...
Read moreThe owner replied with more fallacies. There is NO restriction on using an eftpos machine to sell at door. Cafes are doing it. Bakeries are doing it. The only thing not allowed is to enter the store in level-3. Show me where on covid19.govt.nz website does it say swiping a eptpos card at door is not allowed? Least a business can do in these testing times if be HONEST.
This is a review of the service and not their product(s).
Heard about them and wanted to try their cake. Auckland is in level-3 and every day you hear how small businesses are bearing the most brunt of the lockdowns. We went there to get a few cup cakes for birthday but some genius had planned that customers had to first purchase it online and then come to collect them. We were at their door and they insisted that we order it from our phone from their website and then can collect it. They decided not to use a EFTPOS machine to sell anything and nowhere on their website did it say not to come to store unless you pay online first. We requested a few times to let us pay and sell us a cup cakes but the woman was (perhaps just an employee) told us they have been instructed to not sell anything over the counter at the door but the order must be placed online first. We drove across town for a $8 mini cakes to be stifled but some idiotic...
Read moreI found The Caker online when I was searching for Vegan cakes. They popped up immediately and I took great interest in the google previews. Looking through their website, social media pages and their "online store", I immediately fell in love with the style of cakes!
I was nervous since I haven't tried them before, but that changed completely after I went through with my order - Box of 9 of Chocolate and Strawberry Mini Cakes (Vegan)
Checkout through the website was super smooth and easy, the pick ups are scheduled so you see it is quite organized, and I love that they have different options for delivery (different locations) and option for pick up. My payment went through and a receipt was sent straight away.
The location was very easy to find, although it was hard to find parking (as it is in the city I suppose).
I did the pick up 12 pm and had it for dinner around 7 30 pm. It was rich, decadent, moist, and the icing is nicely proportionate to the cake (as advertised!) I will not hesitate to order here again. Outstanding quality for the price paid!
My only improvement feedback is to have some close up photos of what the mini cakes look like as I do enjoy oogling at beautiful baked creations while browsing what to buy. Thanks for all your efforts at The Caker! Your high ratings are...
