Montrose Cafe, Bistro and Bar — Restaurant in Hibiscus and Bays

First time visiting the restaurant. We eat out most Sundays for a Sunday Roast! We have been to a few restaurants over the past year. This one did not disappoint. Choice of various roasts plus various sizes (small, med or large). We thought the dish would benefit from mashed potatoes and Yorkshire puddings however, the meal was good and beef and lamb cooked well. Our pescatarian friend enjoyed gurnard and salad. Deserts are amazing too! Great menu choice and beautifully presented. Our waiter was polite and attentive. Cost was fair. Location very near the beach and in the town centre. The restaurant was quite dark and would benefit from a total make over, including tables and chairs. We do appreciate this would be very expensive to achieve in today’s economic climate! And there are probably other priorities! Would we go back? Definitely! Thank you, keep up...

My eye fillet beef skewers (it was a mix of three cubes of eye fillet and cheap schnitzel) were overcooked and three half skewers, $38. The rice was dry and overcooked. Very disappointing. The toasted brioche $27 was overpriced for two pieces of brioche toast with tiny bits of tomato and could the feta get any smaller?? A generous topping of baby spinach tried to cover up the lack of toppings…. The rectangular plates were really annoying as they spin as you try to eat your food. The staff were really friendly and efficient. However, a check on which beer in which glass would be more professional. (Ie Stella doesn’t go in a Guinness glass) The atmosphere was below par. We booked for a group of 20 (although only 14 turned up). They had a fantastic system of assigning each couple/family group a number to ensure it was easy for us to pay separately at the end. The food was delicious (unfortunately, I forgot to take photos!) and everyone enjoyed it. There was a mixture of mains ordered - lamb shanks, fettuccine, paella, salad, as well as kids meals. The servers were great and, as well as singing 'Happy Birthday' when they brought out the cake, they even went hunting to try to help us find a safety pin when the birthday girl had a wardrobe malfunction 😁.
