Masjid Al Zawawi is a prominent religious and architectural landmark built in 1985 by Omar Zawawi in memory of his parents. The mosque showcases traditional Omani architecture with modern influences, featuring intricate tile work, elegant calligraphy, and a striking central dome flanked by smaller domes. The tall, detailed minaret complements the mosque’s exterior, while the spacious prayer hall inside is adorned with exquisite Quranic inscriptions and geometric patterns. Serving as both a place of worship and a cultural centre, Masjid Al Zawawi embodies Oman’s rich Islamic heritage and its blend of tradition and modernity in its remarkable architectural design.

Amazing just to go and see, marvelous architecture. Who would have known it was built over 30 years ago? Sad thing is that women are restricted from the main area which is men's. Women's section is bland with plain walls. Mosque serves free hot meals to locals every day at sunset! Very well scoped with green areas outside.

It was built by Omar Zawawi, a member of the Al Zawawi family, to commemorate the death of his father Abdul-Mun'im Al-Zawawi, and opened in 1985. It is notable for having the entirety of the Holy Quran engraved on metal plates on its walls. There was also an older mosque by that name, built in 1906 and demolished in 2005.

Beautiful masjid in khuweir and over looking the main Sultan Qaboos Highway. Spacious and has nice external gardens. Inside, full Quran scripture verses on copper plates, covering the walls all around. Is easily accessible from main road and from khuweir area. Has restaurants around. Not much space for parking.
