We booked two day hikes (lake llaca & the panoramic hike to laguna 69) & the santa cruz trek with Akilpo. These were truly the most beautiful, most fun and best organized treks we have ever done. We met Esteban in the office and went over all the possible treks and hikes for 2 hours. He listened to our preferences and suggested several hikes which he thoroughly explained. He didn't just want to sell tours, he genuinely wants you to find the hike or trek that suits you the best and he takes the acclimatization very serious!! Tours are done in small groups and they offer a lot non touristic hikes, allowing you to walk almost alone and visit places other agencies don't offer.
If you get the chance, ask Leonardo as your guide. Leo is the most helpful, attentive, sweet and funny guide ever. We were lucky to get Leo as our guide for the day hikes and we then requested him for the Santa Cruz trek. He was always cracking up jokes but could also be very serious when you had a problem or issue. Leo is super experienced and has all the know-how. Leo for sure won a special place in our hearts!!
The food was incredible (pancakes with fresh fruit, yoghurt, granola, french toast, lomo saltado, fresh curries with rice and lots of vegetables...). Even snacks were included! The trek material was of great quality: sleeping bags, tents and sleeping mattresses were super comfortable! Furthermore, this company cares about animal welfare and nature conservation as donkeys were not overloaded and found plastic was picked up.
And of course, the views were amazingly beautiful!!
Please book your treks and hikes with Akilpo, it's such an honest, fair, friendly and well organized company!! We're definitely...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this company!
We arrived in Huaraz with a very vague idea on what we wanted to do while we were here. We had been recommended the Laguna 69 Panorama hike with Akilpo, so popped into their offices to discuss how to book. The service we received was just next level - we chatted with Esteban and he gave us so much information and essentially organised everything for us. He recommended the best acclimatisation hikes to do prior to Laguna 69 and organised taxi drivers for us for these. I must have messaged him on WhatsApp every day for the week we were in Huaraz with questions and I was always met with a swift and warm response. He really made our time in Huaraz so enjoyable and so easy.
For the Panorama hike we had Luis as our guide and it was quite honestly one of the best days of our 4.5 months travelling to date (even with a 2:20am pick up!) Luis kept spirits high the entire day. This is a challenging hike at high altitude - there are a lot of operators who sell a similar hike (although without the panoramic viewpoint) for cheaper, loading buses full of people who are not equipped to take on a hike of this magnitude. This is not the case with Akilpo - they truly care about providing a safe and enjoyable experience which you can feel. Adding to that, the breakfast and lunch provided were great, and Luis seemed to have a never ending cookie jar! There is no better way to see Laguna 69 than with Akilpo.
I highly recommend booking any tour with this company. They are fantastic and very passionate about sharing their beautiful country...
Read moreWe did the panorama trail to Laguna 69 and it was one of my best hikes ever. The views were just breathtaking. The guides (Hector and Mychael) were very professional, experienced and always in a good mood with a smile on their face. They knew everything about the mountains, flora and fauna. Because we had two guides one guide could walk in the front with the ones having a faster pace and one stayed in the back for the ones with a slower pace. No one got rushed and could walk in their own pace. Luckily, we were the first ones on lake 69 with no other tourists. That is why the Akilpo tour starts really early but it is totally worth it seeing the lake with no other tourists for about 30min (ofc it depends on the pace of the group). The breakfast (chocolate-banana pancake with fruits and yogurt) and the lunch (curry with naan even with veggie/vegan/gluten-free option) were very nutritious and delicious. I can only recommend the Akilpo team and itâs worth every dollar! They are so well organised like no other agency (trust me, I regret that we didnât do all our tours with them) and they care for your health at that altitude!
NOTE: Pay attention that you acclimatise very well before the hike!!! Arrive at least 3-4 days earlier to Huaraz and do another hike for acclimatising on a lower altitude. The Akilpo team (in our case friendly Esteban) knows whatâs best for foreigners with no experience on...
