Deluge Fountain — Attraction in Bydgoszcz

For nearly forty years after its unveiling in 1904, Deluge fountain depicting the Genesis flood narrative in the bible was one of the prides of the city. Fontanna "Potop" była efektem konkursu ogłoszonego w 1897, który wygrał berliński artysta rzeźbiarz Ferdinand Lepcke. Prace nad wykonaniem i ustawieniem pomnika trwały 6 lat, a uroczystego odsłonięcia dokonano 23 lipca 1904 roku. Pomnik przedstawia kulminacyjny moment biblijnego potopu; scenę, gdy giną zwierzęta i ludzie, którzy nie znaleźli schronienia na arce. Grupa posągowa fontanny składała się z trzech niezależnie stojących części. Rzeźba przetrwała do stycznia 1943, kiedy to decyzją okupacyjnych władz niemieckich rozpoczęto jej rozbiórkę, w celu pozyskania metalu na cele wojenne. Proces rekonstrukcji zainicjowano w 2004 roku. Odbudowa była wykonana w trzech etapach - ostatni w czerwcu 2014 roku. The "Deluge" fountain was the result of a competition announced in 1897, which was won by the Berlin sculptor Ferdinand Lepcke. Work on the completion and setting of the monument lasted for 6 years and the solemn unveiling took place on July 23, 1904. The monument presents the climactic moment of the biblical flood; the scene when animals and people who did not find shelter on the ark die. The statuesque group of the fountain consisted of three independently standing parts. The sculpture survived until January 1943, when the decision of the German occupation authorities began its demolition to obtain metal for war purposes. Very nice and historic fountain, with a tragic story behind it. It represents biblical flood, and as a reconstruction of a 1904 original sculptures it's a very popular tourist attraction.

There is a small stall with ice cream and drinks, a park, a church, and a few other landmarks nearby. The location of the fountain is close to all amenities. Definitely...
