Olivia Garden is a visually stunning place, filled with plants and a tropical atmosphere that suggests a close relationship with nature. However, I was surprised and disappointed to learn that dogs are not allowed — with the reasoning being that they might pee, bite, or damage the plants.
While it’s important to care for plants and maintain the space, this kind of reasoning feels a bit outdated. In today’s world, where ecological awareness is growing, spaces that showcase greenery could also be more open to non-human companions, especially when they’re well-behaved. After all, many dogs are part of our everyday lives and pose no more risk to plants than humans do.
In fact, it’s worth considering that the chemical traces and odours released by humans — especially due to processed food or alcohol consumption — are likely more disturbing to plants than the presence of a calm animal. It raises questions about how we define “care” and for whom.
A more inclusive approach would align better with the green image Olivia Garden presents. Right now, the strict “humans only” policy feels a bit narrow-minded, especially for a place situated in a modern, international business district like Gdańsk Oliwa.

Read moreWent to have a quick business lunch. There were children, grabbing the plants and spilling food and drinks all over the tables and floor. All of the tables were extremely dirty. Reservation signs were on all the smaller tables, but no people sat there for the duration of my stay. The buzzers they give to customers to pick up their orders are extremely loud; highly unexpected for the quiet and peaceful ambience they claim to promote. Ordered pho. It was mediocre at best. The menu clearly says that it’s served with chicken (it’s the first ingredient!), it came without chicken. When I asked the cook, he rudely said that he just cooks according to the menu and if I have a problem, ask the host. This was frustrating since I confirmed that it comes with chicken before I had ordered. At this point I just wanted to leave so I ate and left. The flavor was not very good. The noodles were unevenly cooked. Half were mushy and falling apart. The red chilies had no flavor. Some of the bean sprouts and green onions were brown. At least they supplied a slice of lime so that I could add some taste...
