The exhibition itself was actually really good. However, rating this so low due to the abominably poor administrative experience. We wanted to visit on the morning of the annual Night of Museums, arrived 10 AM, turned out it was closed due to the open night. Bad enough that there was no coordination with Google services (per which it was “open now”) and no clear info on their official website. The website announced the Night of Museums, but included no info of the changed opening hours (I did a deep search later and found it hidden at the end of a long, detailed list of the night's program). Alright, poor communication management happens, bummer for our planned out day, but no big deal, back tomorrow. However, we learned about all of this at their info point in such an insulting manner… The lady working there that morning 1) acted very condescending as to why we didn't inform ourselves before coming, 2) upon pointing out the lack of clear information on Google and their own, official website she pretended it wasn't theirs (it 100% was, muzeumslaskie.pl), 3) claimed it certainly was announced on Facebook implying why we didn't bother checking there (Facebook? Really?! We checked after leaving, nothing recent, then it was posted 2h after this situation), 4) on asking whether another municipal museum were open said “I don't know (period)” and 5) generally was showing a disturbingly high level of detestation for having to deal with this situation with our family. And this was the lady from their info point. Why is such a person working in such a position?! Isn't it their job to be helpful, inform us on alternatives, accept our pointing out that no such info on changed hours was clearly disclosed anywhere (maybe just a tiny “sorry for the inconvenience”?) or at the very least not blame us and not make us feel guilty?! We left in utter disbelief. We go to museums regularly and are used to staff being friendly, welcoming and happy to see families with kids eager to expand their world knowledge. Never experienced anything like this. The behaviour of this person was shameful and deeply dishonorable for such an...
Read moreWe recently visited the Silesian Museum in Katowice and were impressed by its modern, spacious design. The museum itself is large and offers a lot to see and explore.
The temporary exhibitions were beautifully curated and very informative, with everything labeled in both Polish and English, which made it easy to navigate and appreciate the displays. The main exhibition was also very engaging, featuring some interactive elements and a lot of interesting information about the region’s history and culture.
One highlight for us was the exhibition dedicated to traditional Silesian costumes. It was absolutely wonderful, with vibrant displays that gave us a real sense of the region’s rich heritage. The detail and craftsmanship in the garments were stunning, and it was fascinating to see how traditions are preserved and presented.
Unfortunately, the first floor was closed during our visit, but the museum reduced the entrance fee to compensate, which we thought was a fair solution. Even so, we felt like we got plenty of value for our money.
The outdoor area is absolutely massive, though still under construction in some parts, but it shows great promise for future visits.
All in all, the Silesian Museum is a fascinating and modern cultural destination that we’d definitely recommend. A must-visit for anyone interested in learning more about Silesia’s history...
