Museum of the History of Katowice — Attraction in Katowice

We happened to stumble upon the Muzeum Historii Katowic after lunch—and what a wonderful surprise it was! From the outside, the museum is easy to miss, tucked away in a side street, but it’s definitely worth seeking out.

When we visited in the afternoon, we had the entire exhibition to ourselves, which made it feel like a private tour.

On the first floor, we discovered two beautifully restored apartments decorated in the style of around 1900. It was incredibly interesting, with so many little details to discover—not just for antique enthusiasts! The museum provides an explanation sheet that you can carry with you as you explore the rooms, helping you notice even more.

The highlight of the visit was the interactive exhibition on the third floor. Although the main explanations are in Polish, there are English subtitles provided, making it accessible for non-Polish speakers. Even my young child had a lot of fun following the “guide” on the TV screen! There’s so much to try out and play with, and it’s a great way to learn about the city’s history in an engaging, hands-on way.

All in all, this museum is a real hidden gem that we’d highly recommend to anyone...

The exhibition consists of two floors.

On the first floor, the visitor is given the opportunity to see two apartments of the city of Katowice dated in early 20th century. The one belongs to a middle class family, while the other on a wealthy one. Almost all of the items are real! A brochure is provided which describes what the visitor is seeing. This flood should take around 30 mins.

On the other floor, one can find the history of Katowice. This is shown through photos, stories, videos but also interactively quizzes, which help you understand the way the city developed and is structured. Truly on of the best museums I have ever been. It is carefully designed and stands out even comparing with museums in Krakow. The visit on this floor should last 1 hour and 30 mins if you want to explore it in full depth.

Overall a unique and unexpected experience! The staff is friendly and the prices at the shop are really low....

Jakiś czas temu miałam przyjemność odwiedzić Muzeum Historii Katowic. Jestem miłośnikiem historii sztuki i maniakiem muzealnym. To co tam zastałam przerosło moje oczekiwania względem tego miejsca. Dwie wystawy główne- każda w innym stylu. Odnajdzie się tutaj osoba, która woli eksponaty i lubi mieć ,, czarno na białym" odwzorowanie przeszłości - wspaniała wystawa mieszkania mieszczańskiego. Drugą z nich jest wystawa miasta Katowic przepełniona otaczającą zwiedzającego interakcjią. Tam oddziałowują wszystkie zmysły, dlatego robi to wrażenie i zapamiętuje się ją na długo. Rewelacyjnym pomysłem jest to, iż wystawa łączy się z wystawą Historii Śląska w Muzeum Śląskim. Zawdzięcza się to temu samemu projektantowi/projektance/firmie projektującej (tutaj mój błąd nie sprawdziłam danych). Daję to spójną całość o województwie. Muzeum ma też inne wystawy tymczasowe, ale już nie zdążyłam zobaczyć. Dodam, że mój partner, który zazwyczaj męczy się w muzeach był bardzo zainteresowany. Są takie miejsca, których szkoda byłoby nie zobaczyć. Nie popełnijcie tego błędu!

Na koniec dodam, że moje miłe wspomnienia z tego miejsca zawdzięczam wyjątkowemu Panu Robertowi. Nigdy nie spotkałam tak chętnego do przekazywania wiedzy, otwartego przewodnika. Jeśli tam jesteście pytajcie o niego. Przekaże wam wiedzę z pasją i po prostu będziecie czuli satysfakcje, że mocniej nie dało się poczuć wystawy. Odpowiada na wszystkie pytania i jest zainteresowany rozmową.

Ceny porównując do innych muzeów są bardzo dobre. Adekwatne do zawartości wystaw, może i nawet...
