Citadel Park — Attraction in Poznan

Impressive park with lots of old fortifications, memorials and other things.

First of all the park is quite massive and will take some time to explore everything just so you know. But it has lots of things inside of to take a look at such as old fortifications build at the 19th century, Museum of Armament, several monuments and memorials, graveyards and much more.

So would suggest to give at least 1-2 hours to go thru everything in a nice pace and to sit down and relax during the stroll. Cafes and a restaurant is also located within so you could have a bit of food or beverage while you are exploring the park.

Parking is also available around the park but beware that the entrance closest to the center of poznan has...

The Prussian fort built after the Partitions of Poland formed the nerve centre of Poznań’s over-elaborate defence system under its new overlords. It was used mainly as a military prison, a role it resumed during German occupation. It was the final stronghold in the Battle of Poznań, which ended when Red Army troops scaled the fort ramparts with ladders and soon after Generalmajor Gonell shot himself.

After WWII the communists demolished most of the fortifications and made the grounds into a park with propagandist elements. Today it’s a nice place to wander round, with crumbling fort walls, museums, cemeteries, a rosarium, playgrounds, a disused amphitheatre, communist monuments and modern art...

A perfect place for a drink and terrible choice to dine. The restaurant is located in the middle of a beautiful park, surrounded and filled with flowers, plants, trees, bird house, romantic warm orange lights. Amazing romantic place for a drink in the evening, day activities by day. Avoid the kitchen though. My camembert arrived cold. Hot baguette arrived even colder. Chicken liver was delicious but the serving was cheaky. It looked like a lot of liver but there were just few pieces put on top of baked potatoes. Service is extremely slow. Don't get me wrong, the waiter was running around but he was alone for a place which requires at least two or even better...
