Nestled on the picturesque Madeira Island, Monte Tropical Gardens is a hidden oasis of natural beauty and tranquility. What sets this botanical paradise apart is not just its stunning tropical flora and serene ambiance, but also the unique experience of reaching it by taking a scenic cable car ride. As you ascend the lush slopes of the island in the cable car, you are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, offering a preview of the natural wonders that await you at the gardens.

Upon arriving at Monte Tropical Gardens, you are immediately enveloped in a world of vibrant colors, exotic plants, and the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers. The carefully curated collection of tropical flora creates a mesmerizing tapestry of textures and hues, offering a sensory delight for all who visit.

One of the highlights of Monte Tropical Gardens is its serene and peaceful atmosphere. The gentle rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the soft murmur of water features create a symphony of sounds that soothe the soul and transport you to a state of relaxation and bliss. It is a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.

As you explore the garden, you'll find it fun to watch the graceful swans gliding across the tranquil ponds, adding a touch of elegance to the already enchanting scenery. However, it's worth noting that to fully enjoy the garden, you should be in decent shape as the pathways can be challenging. The garden is characterized by a lot of hills and rough pathways, which may require some physical effort to navigate.

The well-maintained pathways meander through the gardens, leading you on a journey of discovery and exploration. Each turn reveals a new vista, a hidden nook, or a captivating display of plants that will leave you in awe of the diversity and magnificence of the natural world. Whether you are a seasoned botanist or simply a nature enthusiast, Monte Tropical Gardens offers something to inspire and delight everyone.

In addition to its stunning botanical wonders and serene ambiance, Monte Tropical Gardens also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Perched on the slopes of Madeira Island, the gardens overlook the azure waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the verdant hillsides of the island, providing a panoramic backdrop that is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Overall, Monte Tropical Gardens is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in the midst of nature's splendor. Its harmonious blend of tropical flora, serene ambiance, stunning views, and the unique experience of taking a cable car to get there make it a true paradise on earth. A visit to Monte Tropical Gardens is not just a journey through a botanical wonderland; it is an experience of beauty, serenity, and enchantment that will leave a lasting impression on your...

Beautiful garden but the one swan isn't being taken care of. 3 Swans- 2 of them bully the lonely one. The lonely one is so weak and frail because the other two won't let him eat. They pick at him and bite him and are super aggressive. Poor Swan was minding his own business and the other ones follow and I'm sure are trying to kill him. My father had to physically help the Swan out of the water because he was not strong enough to get out of his own while the other two Swans bite at his feet and tail aggressively. My father ran over to where the food was and gave the poor thing something to eat since he isn't able to eat with the other two Swans. For an inclosed "zoo" area the people have the power to put this to a stop but choose to just watch. A Swan doesn't loose half of his feathers in one day I'm sure it's been going on for weeks if not more. He was so dirty-tired and hungry, no animal should be treated like this in enclosed space where there isnt another pool to escape to. He should be relocated or separated for his own life. This experience absolutely ruined my time here today. So disheartening. We talked to a nice lady at the front desk and she took a recording video so I truly hope something gets done. See videos and photos...

If you're only going to go to one garden in Funchal, make it this one. It was much better than we expected and we spent a full day there. Be aware if you have a wheelchair or buggy - the paths are made of stones, so make for real hard work pushing a buggy.

The museum area was interesting and there are sculptures dotted around the whole garden. There's a viewing area by the far wall to watch the toboggans go by. The themed gardens are stunning. We were lucky to see a live band performing by the big lake. Make sure to see the flamingos too, which were much nosier than expected.

There's a little cafe by the recreation of a traditional Madeiran house where we got drinks and cake. The main cafe has a good selection of reasonably priced food with free wine tasting. We also got pina coladas (and virgin ones) by the lake, these were tasty but €15 each(they didn't display the price, €5 refills).

A beautiful oasis in Funchal and somewhere I'd definitely return. The cable car up there was an experience in itself. Book a return ticket if the toboggans aren't running on Sundays as there are taxis waiting on the rank, but it's pretty difficult to get a prebooked taxi or Bolt to come...

Things to do in Madeira, Portugal (save and share this post): I spent 6 amazing days in Madeira, Portugal and it is by far my most favorite European destination. The island has such a diverse landscape and the weather is mild year round. Here’s my itinerary! Day 1: Pool day at my hotel (NEXT Hotel) for most of the day and then I went running up the crazy hills of Madeira to see Funchal by foot. Day 2: I explored the NW part of the island visiting Seixal Beach, Ponto Moniz, Fanal Forest and Ilheus da Ribeira da Janela. Day 3: I went on a sidecar adventure where I explored Valley of the Nuns, the Cabo Girão Skywalk, and the fishing town of São Pedro. I booked this on Airbnb experiences and will link it in my Madeira stories, it was an amazing tour. Day 4: Whale and dolphin watching tour but we only saw dolphins. In the evening I did an Airbnb Experience at a locals farm house where he cooked a great dinner where 90% of the items were picked directly from his gardens that day. He also taught us how to make poncha, a favorite local drink. Day 5: I toured the SE part of the island visiting Ponta do Garajau, Monte Palace, and ended the day at the most beautiful views from Pico do Arieiro (the videos of me on the clouds). Day 6: I watched the sunrise from Miradouro Ponto do Rosto and then did an 8 mile hike of Levado do Caldeirão Verde. After the hike I relaxed at the pool! If you want photos taken in Madeira I recommend @robframing. Madeira was everything and I don’t see it dropping out of my top 5 international destinations anytime soon. Have you been to Madeira? If not does this video make you want to visit? #madeiraportugal #uniquedestinations #travelreels
