Land Food & Coffee — Restaurant in Funchal

We found this restaurant right out of the cable car that comes from Funchal, however we believe there's other options around.

We were surprise when we walked in and the place was packed, with doors closed (Covid does not seem to exist here). We tried to sit outside but it was just too cold and windy so we sat on a table that they right away told us it was reserved, they moved us to the table next to that one (same size). Food took ages and when arrived it was very small portions, no worries about that as we were not that hungry. However the eggs were drenched in a tomato sauce. Ordered a pastrami toast but it had thick slices of hard beef, not tender or juicy. The coffee was fine as I believe also that this is more of a coffee aficionado than...

Land offers a small but carefully curated menu with top quality ingredients and fantastic food flavours. If you just want a coffee and cake rest stop from all that the monte area offers, this is a good choice.

Land is located within the Teleferico building at the top of Monte and has a simple but modern interior design which is warm and open. The staff are fantastic, very attentive and happy to explain all food and drink options.

I recommend the pastrami sandwich paired with a cappuccino for a brunch/lunch option, it's also worth mentioning Land serves the one and only local ODD coffee roasters which is hands down the best coffee roast you can get in Madeira (also @local shop/@greenhouse coffee) you can even buy a bag...

Hip and upcoming establishment next to the cable car station and the monte palace garden. Price is rather on the steep side (quite steep) for the island but understandble considering the location. Every now and then filled with insta-wannabe-brats which is rather a contrast to such a humble island. Some of the few places on the island that offers artisanal coffee, it's a must-to-try. Considerable for a quick lunch or bites after exploring the monte palace or the cable car ride. p.s. it can really get busy during peak hours, and covid-19 health protocol isn't at its best if you're dining in (tables distance, paper menu, etc.), so...
