The Blue House Café/ Restaurant in Monte Palace Tropical Gardens served the best Pastel de Nata we’ve ever had - and we’ve had quite a few . Having enjoyed the lush , tropical informal gardens and being amazed at how close we’d been to the flamingoes we stumbled upon the cafe . First we heard the ladies on the staff laughing heartily . We found a table outside with a brilliant view then thoroughly enjoyed the warm , flaky pastel de nata - perfect consistency of custard . When I went in to tell the staff it was the best we’d had and to thank them for being so cheerful they gave us another with cinnamon sprinkled one to compare . Delicious but cinnamon is a Christmas thing for us . Thankyou to the ladies and especially to the manager Juan whose manner was exemplary - welcoming , cheerful . If this cafe was near us at home we’d be in there every day . Getting there - parked at the free carpark between Monte Palace Tropical Gardens and the top of the cable car ( they’re side by side) We bought cable car tickets online, got the cable car down , mooched around Funchal , came back up to the gardens then car back to apartment . The food and drink are self serve, mostly pre-made sandwiches. The prices are not bad for a tourist place. The view from the dining area is amazing!
