With all the outstanding reviews of Vila Vita singing the praises of its grounds, food and service, our expectations were set very high, and quite remarkably they were met in virtually every way. A few, hopefully useful, hints / observations: Garden View room : Be aware that some garden view rooms have a somewhat limited view compared to the other views this site has to offer. We were initially allocated room 304, a deluxe garden room in the main building (through a BA booking), however on viewing, due to the view mainly being of tall palm trees and ornate high bushes (see attached image) we chose to pay for an upgrade to a ground floor ocean view room in the “Residence” building, as this offered a direct panoramic view of the ocean (see attached images). Although expensive at roughly 100 euros a night extra, the view and additional outside space (including sun loungers) we would highly recommend this option. The restaurants : A minor note of caution, each restaurant will very naturally offer an aperitif, and then a basket of bread will appear, which is presented as though here is your bread, but with a slight questioning tone… both are optional extras even on half board and you will be charged. The Adega Restaurant : One of the restaurants included in the half board option. Traditional Portuguese food. The maitre d seemed hassled, and seemed to resent any questions regarding the menu, which being our first night wasn’t the best start, and probably impacted our overall impression. The food was simple and simply presented. We chose not to return. The Aladin Grill Restaurant : Not one of the half board restaurants… but tell them when requesting to sign the bill and 43 euro per person will be deducted. This is how it should be done. Excellent service and food in a very ornate and stylish setting… cannot fault it. We ate here twice, highly recommended. We chose to keep the price down by accepting the bread and accompaniments as a starter and then having mains only. Praia Dourada Restaurant : This is on the beach front a 10 minute shuttle bus ride away, and is one of the half board restaurants. It was dark, so we couldn’t see the view…. which we assume would be one of the attractions. Much better priced drinks …. as I assume they have to compete with others on the sea front. A perfectly pleasant restaurant. The shuttle bus is well organised. The Cave de Vinhos - meet the chef : An expensive option. Interesting environment in a wine cellar. The price includes a glass of wine with each course. Delicious tapas type starters, and deserts. The main course was a choice of Traditional Portuguese Octopus stew or Veal. We had one of each. Neither was to our taste. It was enjoyable to be provided with wine selected to complement the food… but it is not clear why it is called “meet the chef”, as you pre order the food on booking and it is prepared beforehand. There is no chef to meet. Unless you are very keen on Traditional Portuguese food and a wine enthusiast I’m afraid that I would not recommend. The Bela Vita Restaurant : Another one of the half board restaurants, and in our view by far the best. Excellent food and service in a very stylish environment. We ate here twice. Would definitely recommended, Breakfast : If you don’t have children with you use the Atlantico Restaurant as you choose specials from the menu, and then help yourself from the buffet. With a lovely view across the ocean you can’t ask for a better start to the day. Coastal walk : You can walk to the nearby village/town along a cliff edge path, which is narrow and steep and right on the edge in places. However you can skip the more tricky part of the walk by using a small exit gate positioned in the far corner of the grounds on the edge of the 9 hole pitch and putt course …this exits directly onto the coastal path. There’s a push button to exit and you swipe your room card to re-enter. We took this route a couple of times as there are a number of supermarkets there… and bars etc.

Excellent stay overall. We are part of the leaders club group so I’m not sure if everything we experienced is standard, but it was very good. Some of the most considered personal touches ever, everyone is very friendly and people feel happy to help. Welcome gifts, leaving gifts, package gifts, all very very high quality. Food is great, some of the best tex mex at the pool bar I have had outside of the US/Mexico … and that’s just the pool bar! Highly recommend getting a cabana and if you can prebooking it. We visited in 30 degree heat and all the pools felt nice. Towels are plenty, always somewhere to lounge, everywhere feels clean. There are free Turkish baths as well as a separate spa with some of the best massage therapists out there. The secluded beach and walk along the cliffs is stunning. We stayed in two different rooms and the hotel vs the oasis suites offer very different things. If you want modern views and an incredible rain shower go for the hotel - if you want a bit more space and more classic design with a big bath, try the suites. I would definitely like to visit in one of the villas at some stage. The kids club and the babysitting (which I hadn’t planned on using either) were actually very good, our 5 year old wanted to be babysat!! And to return to the kids club. This allowed us to go to the Japanese restaurant which had a couple minor service issues but the food and views were very very good. The breakfast is full of choice, personally would love to see a hash brown / potato option for the mornings, and some better coffee. Our favourite meals were in the Adeja and actually at the Oasis bar/lounge. Good coffee in the cafe separately though. We also did half board as part of a package and that got a bit confusing with bills depending on the restaurant. If we weren’t doing the package I would just pay normal. The family package I believe is new and is so lovely. The pizza class was way beyond what I expected and very private and personal, lead by the chef, our daughter did everything and it was some of the best pizza I have ever had - plus we got to keep the chef hat and apron. The water park was very good and not too far to go (you could also pick the dolphin park but I don’t agree with those places). The on-site sport options are very high quality - mini golf, lots of racquet sports, excellent. We also booked a cave tour on the Felimare boat. The skipper and captain and the tour was one of the best things we’ve ever done. Private, classy, friendly, informative and stunning. We saw a family of about 6+ dolphins too. Having eaten in Portimao really showed the difference in quality of food and happiness of the team compared to the hotel, for basically the same price which made us just want to stay on the resort. Normally I prefer to venture out but it’s just too nice! The beach places we tried and didn’t adore, but the stars were amazing and everything was alright. Other families at the resort told me they keep seeing a lot of the same team year on year. The service is very very good. The sommelier and the waiter who created the Good Old Fashioned seriously know their stuff. Thank you to everyone !

Great hotel. Also restaurant Atlantico is great! The best of their 9 restaurants! Atlantico is the most beautiful restaurant in Vila Vitaparc, with a magical view over the Atlantic Ocean. From the reception you walk through the tropical gardens towards the Atlantic Ocean to reach restaurant Atlantico. Or you take the buggy, which will take you to the entrance of Atlantico. Nice people work at Atlantico who clearly enjoy working. Dear people, like Yolanda, Joao, Hugo, Jimmy, Rafael, and the others! That cheerful, enthusiastic amateurism (in the literal sense of the word: enthusiast), less stiff than at the other 8 restaurants of Vila Vitaparc. It is immediately noticeable that they take hospitality and quality seriously here. You will receive a friendly welcome and from that moment on you will be pampered. In many top stores you are shocked when the bill is brought. That is why we are so happy to eat in a top restaurant again where we feel that the ratio is in balance. Here you can enjoy a nice dinner for a good price. Starters from 4.50 euros, main courses from 21 euros. This is Michelin level food, for the price of an “ordinary” restaurant! Everything is freshly prepared by the kitchen team, and all ingredients are organic and local. This applies to wine, fish and vegetables. What a great concept. Chef Joao Viegas (1988, Faro) used to work for Michelin star restaurants, and now has his own organic-and-local concept here. Atlantico does not yet have a Michelin star, but it will certainly come!

Outstanding service ( the resort sub manager is so hands on taking care of clients’ special needs, kudos), gorgeous resort, especially the outdoor garden and pool area, the hotel restaurants are gems to be discovered, don’t miss their wine cellar. I love their breakfast both in the Atlantico and the main building. The dinner in Mizu has excellent food. Don’t even go to local restaurants because local prices are not really local and the ambiance and service are nowhere near what you get here in the hotel. Just book early for everything, restaurants and spa treatments because they are so difficult to book. I am not even talking about the summer high season here. There is also a nice walk trail along the cliff top to the next village beach. The beach is a cove beach, so if you are looking for long beach walks, this is not the area. Here you find amazing caves and cliff top walks. If you want great long beaches, head to Vilamoure area. But I think you should try both areas. They are very different and beautiful in different ways. I would strongly recommend an upgrade of their indoor pool area, gym and the free spa area. They are not 5*, too small too old. When the weather gets bad, there is not much to do and one starts to notice the shortcoming. But if you come when the weather is great, you probably will be too busy to even use these facilities.

Overall highly recommend! Amazing property and incredible views. Especially from the townhouse / residences (felt the extra $ was worth it - really stunning). Beautiful decor and authentic feeling throughout the property. I was hesitant to book because of how big it is - was concerned it would feel cheesy - but it does not. Very classy and impressive attention to detail. I did four stars because 1. the food/drink service was quite slow at times and/or order was incorrect (think they might still be short staffed because everyone was incredibly nice and professional - just execution was lacking a bit… and 2. I was not overly impressed by the food. Granted we did not do Oceans/ the fancy restaurant, but we did a couple others (Whale, Arte Nautica) and it was fine but not quite what’d you expect from such an impressive hotel. Also maybe a result of being short staffed. Not bad enough to ruin our experience - overall very positive and would recommend this!! Also would recommend the pitch and putt on the property - really fun activity, and booking a private boat tour through them - great way to see the sights/ coastline!
