Beautiful cathedral in the city center with Gothic tower dating to 12th century (rest was added in 16th and 17th centuries). It is often erroneously mixed up with famous Sanctuary church at the top of Stairs. According to the legend first king of Portugal was declared to be as such in this cathedral. Curious feature of cathedral’s gates is presence of some erotic sculptures that might have been added in Renaissance era. It is in plain eyesight but not easy to spot.

The church, established in 1129, is a marvel of Gothic architecture. Admission is free, allowing visitors to explore its numerous internal gates. Notably, a gate on the left side opens to a serene fountain, flanked by exquisitely crafted columns.

Requires time to just set, contemplate, and pray. So many aspects of Mary's life that we know, but often fail to consider. The reality of Mary's pregnancy is depicted for our consideration. Allow time for prayer and maybe a Rosary. A must stop

The most gorgeous doors of wood and brass. The entire town of Lamego is so beautiful and worth a visit. It was closed for lunch when we got there, but still enjoyed viewing the outside.
