This beach offers the absolute best sunsets on the entire island. You'll be walking, sitting, and laying on smooth pebbles, as there's no sand, just pebbles. But, it's so worth it. There are wood walking planks throughout the beach, wood sitting areas under umbrellas, and a perfectly protected cove to swim your laps in. Superb restaurants, cafes, bars, sidewalk fruit stands, and a respectable Hotel directly across the street. Street parking is very limited, and there's a tunnel at the end of the avenue that you can park in too. This is a very special location that offers such diverse activities and a wonderful place to spend time together. Plan a day here if...

Ponta Do Sol was the first beach I saw when I came to Madeira at sunset and I almost came back every day.

It is a truly magical and peaceful place!

Even though it is a rocky beach, there are sunbeds which you can rent I think though I never did. There are a few restaurants and bars here, even a bar where a small beer is just 1 euro!

The sunsets are the best here. It is not completely oriented to the west but it is even better. The sun goes down just next to the huge cliffs.

One night there was even a small boat where a person was playing bagpipes in during the sunset which made it even...

Nice protected beach to swim in. Beach is rocky so bring swimming footwear if you have it. The beach also has some lay down areas with deckchairs however all of these were taken by the time we had arrived (11am) Very little parking by beach and it’s best to just park up at Ponta do Sol itself rather than trying to find a spot by the beach. Beach also has free toilet facilities that are kept quite tidy. Shower facilities were closed on our visit but there were outdoor showers...

This spot is a gem. Visited Madeira in early November, and had a nice time swimming here on two occasions when the ocean was very rough everywhere else. Decent free public restrooms for my pregnant wife. A nice beachside cafe for food & drinks. Also, there is a great spot to jump off the stairs/wall/cliffs into the water below. Water shoes recommended for beach entry on stones. Don’t miss the freshwater shower at east end of beach… water was nice and warm from sun hitting the rocks!
