You can guess what the restaurants priority is as they refused to do tap water. Considering how good Madeira's water is, it is surprising they would refuse tap water. Other local restaurants would happily offer you a jug of water, some would even slices if lemon and and ice in the jug. 3 of us went for an evening meal. One of us order their steak special at €25 that cames with salad and half sweet potatoes, cherry tomatoes, 1 clove of grilled garlic and 2 dabs of aoli. Even though steak was tender, it had no unique barbecues flavour. The coarse seasalt included on the leaf was pointless as it was too gritty to add anything to the taste of the dish. One of us ordered dorada fish that came with no garnish, salad or suggestion of any accompaniment. At €20 it definitely was not worth it, even though they were kinda enough to debone it for my partner. The fish soup was the best thing out of the whole order but garlic bread( balo d Coco) was dry, stale and stoggy with hardly any flavour. We ended up leaving half the bread. Along with 2 ponchas and passion fruit the bill came to €67 for three of us. Being regular visitor to Madeira I have had more appetising and reasonably priced meals. The review ratings are misleading which makes me wonder if they...
Read moreWe went to this place based on the reviews and we accept that reviewing is subjective, so for us it was deflating feeling when it came to food. Starter of garlic bread, mozzarella and tomato salad was nice, but then it’s not a complicated affair to make garlic bread and mozzarella/tomato salad. We ordered for mains tuna steak which came with boiled potatoes and black linguine with prawns. Tuna was served overdone and everyone who knows tiny bit about tuna, knows that if it’s kept too long in the frying pan, it becomes rubbery. The sauce served with tuna steak was bizarre tasting. So, it was big disappointment. But black linguine which came in form of spaghetti (linguine are slightly thicker than spaghetti) were tasteless, rubbery and the prawns again overcooked. One more thing to know about this place, and it’s maybe a normal thing in Madeira, nothing, in terms of salad or potatoes we had is seasoned, nothing, it is served just bland. Staff were friendly and nice and the location is very nice. We left this place disappointed with food and 60 euros poorer, for a dinner for two. Not complaining about the money, because good things cost, only at Caprice they do cost, and they’re not so good…not at least...
Read moreWe're staying in the lovely Sunset bay of Ponta do Sol and appreciating it's charm, seaside location and Caprice. We were looking for seafood cuisine and rocked up here after a quick research online. Despite no reservation, we were able to have a table and were first offered complimentary Madeira wine that was useful to taste, quite sherry like. We decided on a tomato beased seafood pasta for me and my husband had Sea bream. Both were delicious. Boiled potatoes seem to be offered with fish here. The seafood pasta had plenty of mussel meat, 2 enormous prawns party deshelled which I appreciated. Bread doesn't get offered as complimentary in Madeira it seems so just be aware of that. Tap water was not offered here, again just be aware.
We had homemade Tirmisu for pudding which was splendid.
Our main waiter said his wife made the Tiramisu and his mother in law made the cheesecake so it seems this place is a family business which was pleasing to hear. More Madeira wine offered at the end, a different variety and really pleasant. Lovely atmosphere with saxophone gentle jazz playing with screen reference to who was playing. Pleasant surroundings and highly...
