Exceptional selection of beers, but sadly, with poor service. The bar caught our eye on our first day in town, so I peeped in to see what it was about, but found no staff present, though there were guests sitting outside. We came the next evening again. The beer of the house was unfortunately not available, and it was a challenge to find out what other beers exactly were on tap. There was no board, the printed beer menu was rather confusing and only stated the beer type and percentage, but not the brewery and the name of the draft beers. Quite an essential mistake for a bar of this type. The bartenders themselves had little idea about what they were selling. I ordered Dois Corvos, got Musa instead. The staff seemed confused, uninterested and we felt kind of unwelcome from the beginning. Though we wanted to spend our last evening on the island there, we left disappointed after one drink. This place could be a secret gem for beer lovers, but so far I see a lot of...
Read moreAbsolutely awesome! It took us quite a lot of time where to eat in the area as most of the places have not such good reviews, we ended up in The Small House and it was really good!
The service was just amazing, our waiter was super nice, he recommended us various beers and was very pleasant to talk to. The place has huge variety of beers, which can be overwhelming but the staff was helpful and happy to discuss your preferences. It took a bit more time to receive our food as the place was overcrowded - the waiter came and apologized to us, which was very thoughtful and it is quite rarely happening. Their Fruit Beer is very nice, definitely recommend trying! Their toasts are tasty too and for very affordable price. Moreover, it was really filled with the ingredients they promise and not just dry bread slices as they would serve somewhere else. Overall, definitely a 5star experience and will most probably come...
Read moreOne of 3-4 bars and restaurants on the same street. Has a great selection of beers. They have their own brews on tap: Madeira Beer Lab iirc, which were good. Hundreds of different bottled beers from all around the world. The bottles are pricey.
Food is actually decent value in terms of Madeira tourist prices. Toasted sarnies etc - all nicely done. We ended up eating here quite often for a quick lunch.
The staff and services varies. One girl in the afternoon was very nice: chatty and pleasant and quick. Others are not good at all. If you're going to be in service....SMILE. Talk to your customers. It won't kill you! Your job is to make customers happy. So get on with it.
Not sure if all the places on this street are owned by the same people. Some of them seem to...
