We stopped by Trinidad on a port visit aboard the Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Seas November 2022. We had this grand idea of walking from the Port of Spain to the popular Fredericks Street to Queen's Park Savannah. We did that and we can honestly say we had an adventure of a lifetime going through the modern part of the city, passing through food places with the best food ever in the Caribbean, shops where there is high crime that one person is standing on a high stool to look for potential shoplifters, walking by the Museum and Performing Arts Centre to finally getting to the Park all drenched from a tropical rainstorm. After all of this, a wonderful cab driver saved us from the most torrential downpour, showed us the city and got us to the ship on time. Wanting to share the most beautiful pictures of Queen's Park Savannah during our walk before the rainstorm, during and after. This is such a gorgeous park. Pictures are unedited. So many shades of green .. ...

A beautiful expanse of grass and trees, with hollows and flats. A food truck area especially active in evening and an area with sno-cone and coconut vendors lined along the way where you can get a refreshing coconut water or shaved ice. Numerous beautiful and historic sites as you traverse around. Within, there is is the carnival area with the grand stand and north stand where masqueradors go through for judging at carnival times but the area is also used for other cultural activities throughout the year. I think the perimeter of this Savannah is about 3 to 4 km. I plan to walk it one day and actually measure it myself. 😅a bucket item list for me, that hundreds of people do daily. Located in uptown Port of Spain. During carnival time there are many craft and food booths. I visited a few and uploaded the pictures here.

Its one of the best spots to relax and enjoy the outdoors in Port of Spain. It’s huge, open, and great for a walk, jog, or just lounging around. The area is well-kept, with plenty of green space and beautiful views, especially in the evenings when the sun starts to set. I also attended a yoga session there, and it was a great experience. The peaceful atmosphere and open space made it the perfect setting to unwind and connect with nature. It’s a popular spot for families, fitness enthusiasts, or anyone just looking to relax. There are also lots of food vendors around, so you can grab a quick bite or drink while enjoying the view.

Review of Queen’s Park Savannah – Trinidad & Tobago

“The Heartbeat of Port of Spain”

Queen’s Park Savannah, often called “The Savannah” by locals, is one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most iconic landmarks. Situated in the capital city, Port of Spain, it is the largest open recreational space in the Caribbean, covering approximately 260 acres. More than just a park, the Savannah holds deep historical, cultural, and social significance for Trinidadians.

Historically, Queen’s Park Savannah was...

Huge open park just outside downtown Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago where you can find scores of young and old alike walking, jogging, kite flying (during the Easter period), playing football (soccer), cricket, even a rugby. It contains controversial physical structures (including a permanent "Grand Stand" and temporary stands) which are used for a variety of cultural (and formerly sporting) activities. It is the centre and main venue for the renowned pre-Lent Carnival celebrations...

The deal the then Trinidad and Tobago government made with the previous owners of the queen's park Savanah, was that no permanent structure be erected on the site, we now have a permanent structure there and every year during the carnival festivities large areas and dug up and covered over killing all the grass in those areas and nothing is done to then restore those areas so the land becomes compact reducingbits ability to absorb large amounts of water during the rainy season which...
