Sultanovskaya Mechet — Attraction in Kazan

Sultanovskaya Mosque (Russian: Султановская мечеть, Tatar: Солтан мәчете) is a historic mosque located in the Old Tatar Settlement of Kazan, the capital city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.

The mosque was originally built in 1868, funded by a wealthy Tatar merchant named Zigansha Usmanov. For this reason, it's also sometimes referred to as the Usmanovskaya Mosque or the Eighth Mosque in the Old Tatar Quarter.

During the Soviet era, the mosque was closed on November 11, 1931, as part of the government's anti-religious campaigns. However, the minaret was restored in 1990, and by 1994, the mosque was returned to the local Muslim community and resumed its function as a place of worship.

The mosque is a beautiful blend of Tatar-Bolghar medieval architectural elements and national romanticism. It features:
