Great Castle but what was even better were the people working at the castle! The Trencin castle is really unique. Everyone who loves military history has to visit this castle. Original purpose of this castle, which was to keep the Lord safe, was not changed during the safer times of the 18.th and 19.th century. The castle walls are as thick as they used to be, ditches are still there and defence lines are still ready. The main tower has the same narrow and steep stairs leading to the top and lord's room is still small and not very comfortable. It is like time machine. In the southern fortification lines you feel like in Helm's deep and you think what kind of force would have to be used to destroy them. I was impressed. But I was also impressed by people who work there. Everyone was friendly and helpful to their max. I forgot my postcards that I bought at the cash register and the man who sold them to me brought them to me all the way to the city! I could not believe it! I want to say thank you this way again. Really, I was impressed. Thank you for making my visit of this castle even better than I expected! Parking lot is at the edge of the main square and there are three main ways to walk there leading to two entrances - entrance from the Peace square and the second one was from Forest Park Breziny(it was closed). I chose the longest but also the easiest one, there were no stairs, I went past the executor's house. The other two ways up include stairs. The whole visit of the castle is family friendly, you can even use stroller to see majority of the castle (all the way to Jeremy's Bastion. Oh, I can't forget to mention the wonderful views on the whole Trenčín city and the whole area. I highly recommend to visit this castle, it is definitely one of the most impressive castles in...
Read moreThe castle can be reached directly from the city center from Matúšova Street(I recommend visiting coffee sheep on this way), or via the reconstructed steep castle steps that lead from the city gate to the Gothic church on the castle hill. I tryed them both ways.
The castle houses the expositions of the Trenčín Museum founded in 1877), relating to the history of the Trenčín region and the castle itself. The Barbora Palace houses an exhibition of historical furniture, valuable weapons, paintings and prehistoric exhibits in Ludvík's Palace and a permanent castle gallery in the castle's farm building. In addition, there are archaeological collections and finds discovered during archaeological excavations at the castle. The expositions at the castle are open to the public during visiting hours. From Matúš's tower there is a view of the surrounding landscape, urban architecture and massive Gothic-Renaissance fortifications reaching far into the natural forest of Brezina. I have so good luck, for a castle guide , this small woman was amazing, she...
Read moreThis castle doesn’t deserve your time. First, we had to wait a cashier for 15 min under the sun because she was in the bathroom. Guys, if you charge 9 euro per person, can you accommodate 2 cashiers? Then, a lot of rooms were closed, nobody notified us in advance about that. Finally we visited one tower, all the rooms are empty, without any exhibit. Then we used an official map that they gave us on the entrance and we found second exit which was located down. We went 10 min down and the end we found out that there is no exit there and we need to come up again! Some stuff started shouting at me, that I must go up and there was a sign on the entrance that another exit is not available. We didn’t see this sign, but there were a lot of different signs inside with the information about the second exit, that it exists. His behavior was terrible. I had a bully pain and I couldn’t go up, but he didn’t care. Plus, no English guide, so guided tours will not be available for you if you don’t understand...
