Reštaurácia Pod hradom — Restaurant in Trenčín

I expected more than a nice presentation. There was only one dish without meat, which was trout. That's fine. It contained speck... No ideas what it was, I googled it. Bacon or prosciutto most likely. I asked the waiter, telling him I don't eat meat and he assured me it wasn't meat. Surprise from the kitchen, a bun with something with butter. Turns out it was blended duck liver with butter.

Food is served. Nice presentation with the fish. I dig in and ... Hmm... Hello meat... The waiter said sorry and that he didn't know what speck was either. They remade the dish so I got it some time after my wife was done eating her chicken surpreme (cantina quality, buy nicely presented). The lasagna sheets were a bit chewy and there were only half as much filling as in the previous portion. +Nice presentation +Nice restaurant +Good English level -Waiter didn't know the menu -Expensive -Food quality...

I can't really rate the food. But we were party of 4. Walked in, on a public holiday in early afternoon, there were just a few people eating with most tables empty. We waited for nearly 10min for the nice lady waitress to show up. They could not put 2 tables together, so they offered us 2 extra chairs to our table. We sat down, but that was it. Nobody showed up for another 5min. We were thirsty and hungry on a hot day, but could not get water or anything. We stood up and left, unimpressed. Nobody saw us leaving, so I guess the waitress has less work. But at the entrance there were leaflets promoting a political party, as it a few weeks before the election. So it seems like the owner is associated...

Delicious food, nicely presented and good service from the knowledge, friendly waiters who spoke good English. English menus were available.

Good wine list with a selection of mainly local and Italian wines at reasonable prices.

Nice location under the castle in the town.

Only negatives were the bright, fluorescent lighting and the music which was some kind of club/dance music played too loud: these did not help the atmosphere, but overall a very enjoyable evening. I would definitely visit again.

Edit I originally gave this restaurant 4/5 but in the context of the quality of others in the area it deserves 5/5. I would go as far to say it is the only fine dining...
