A Picture-Perfect Hike with a Dash of Challenge! Visited Lake Bled in early July, and oh, what a gem it is! Kicking off the day with some kayaking on its glassy waters, gazing at the quaint church on the island, felt like stepping into a postcard. But the real adventure truly began on foot!
My hike around the lake spanned about 5.13 miles (approx. 8.25 km) over 1 hour and 50 minutes, involving a surprising 911 feet (approx. 277.7 m) of elevation gain. Some sections were remarkably steep, with inclines up to 75 degrees – quite reminiscent of the Amalfi Coast's famed Pontone trails! As I thought to myself, "The views were as lovely as a fairy tale, but the climb was definitely no joke!"
Despite the effort, the majestic natural beauty embracing the lake rewarded every single step. It was inspiring to see everyone, young and old, enjoying the hike, even under the warm summer sun.
Quick Tip for Fellow Explorers!
Due to parking time limits, I couldn't complete the entire loop, much to my chagrin. To save myself a roughly 30-minute walk, I opted for an Uber (10.80 euros well spent!) to get back to the car. A gentle reminder that time truly flies when you're having fun! Nevertheless, Lake Bled's overwhelming beauty is etched in my memory....
Read moreGreat view of Lake Bled. Be careful to watch out for the sign leading up to this viewpoint as we missed it and ended up going to the very top viewpoint. Both were great views but if it's a hot day and you don't want too much ascent walking, the first viewpoint is more than enough. Be careful to wear proper shoes as it can be slippery depending on when you go. We went June 2024 on a sunny day but it had been raining so it was slippery. The path for this viewpoint in particular is steep and you will need to use the cable handrail to get up, rocks are polished and slippy. I wouldn't say you need to be really fit to do this but be aware it's a constant ascent so just take your time depending on your fitness levels. Worth the view...
Read moreThe best view point over lake Bled and the island with the church in my opinion. The view is asthonishing, it is calmer than higher up the hill, and there us less people so it is more relaxed. When we visited there was mist, but this place was influenced very little. No real sitting places, but despite that totally worth it. The path to the point requires a decent condition, as you have to go up...
