Travelled from Stansted to Klagenfurt on everyone's least favourite airline (it begins with "R"...). Flights were actually okay in fairness.||Upon arrival we established Uber has recently started in Klagenfurt, so fired up the App and were quoted 95 euros so we ordered. Beware, however, the following day a further 50 euros of charges were added for "Tolls", "Excess mileage" (surely they knew the distance when they quoted...) and "Waiting time" (we're guessing for when the driver stopped to charge up his toll pass...) so it wasn't the bargain it first seemed. Who knew Uber can unilaterally significantly increase the fare....? ||On the way back to Klagenfurt we used Bled Transfers (next door to the Casino in town) for a fixed fee of 160, albeit via the "over the mountain" toll free route.||Upon arrival we were told check in was 3pm. Slightly annoying as our paperwork, that was seemingly standard issue for campers (NOT glamping pods), stated Noon.||We were allocated glamping pod 2. They are in an elevated position at the rear of the site (which is big) and don't have lake view.||The pod itself was small but perfectly formed, but does have some compromises. Firstly, the bunk beds are in the main living area, where the TV is (BBC News wouldn't work, but there were a few film channels in English). The kitchen is small with only two electric rings and an under counter fridge, but no toaster or microwave. WiFi was a bit slow and hit and miss at the back of the site - the bar WiFi was better at the front of site.||Beds were comfy and towels and bedding (2 single duvets on the double) are provided, but the towels are very small - think the size of UK hand towels.||The shower room was fine, but hot water comes from a tank and does run out, particularly if four of you want a morning shower.||The balcony has only 2 chairs, but there is a table with four chairs at the back. We asked to borrow the (promised) BBQ which looked about 100 years old when it was delivered - to the wrong pod...||The campsite is very clean and the communal showers etc are modern. Block 2 includes clothes washing machines for which a 5 euro token from reception is needed.||The Zaka restaurant is nice - as a guide cocktails are 7.5 (but there was a happy hour from 1830 when we were there), and pizzas c. 15 euro.||There is a small shop on site, but when we were there only opened 8am to 3pm, and not at all on Sunday. Adequate for morning bread and croissants etc. ||The site is at the end of the lake from Bled Town - c. 2 miles walk away in either direction around the lake. A taxi to town was 15 euros for us.||Paddle board (10 euros an hour) and boat hire (25 euros an hour) is available from the boat house 2 minutes to the right of the main entrance road.||Our weather (last week of May) was mixed. We had a high of 25 and some sun, but also 36 hours of persistent rain towards the end of our week. The lake temperature was 17 and we ventured in for a swim a couple of times.||Having arrived by taxi (which was evidently unusual) we did lots of walking, including to Vintgar Gorge, the Castle, and various view points.||Guests of the campsite can use other Sava (the owning "group") facilities for discounted rates, so we spent a (wet) day in the Welness Ziva leisure centre at the Hotel Rikli Balance which was nice (for a half price cost of 38 euros for 4 people).||Be aware vehicle movements on site are prohibited overnight and the barriers will not open so if you are arriving late or departing before 7am it has to be from outside the barriers.||Overall we enjoyed it, and the site is evidently very popular as it was "Full" the whole time we were there.||Photos included of pod exterior, view of lake Bled, Bar / Restaurant on site and Wellness Ziva pool (in Rikli Balance Hotel - NOT...
Read moreCamp Bled is a really nice campsite situated perfectly on the lake just off the regatta course finish. It has beautiful walks around it with amazing view points looking over the lake. It is however a 3km walk to the centre of town which will take aproximately 30-40minuetes. That said you can take advantage of the walk along the lake to get to town.
Positives. The staff we found, to be really helpful. They cycled right over to our pitch when we had a question. The camp has WiFi through out. It can be a little hit and miss but it is accessible every where on site. The showers and toilet. We were at the far end of the site send the toilet block was clean and amenable. At the end of the week we used the middle block of toilets as we used the laundry. They appeared to have just been renovated, maybe, and were outstanding. There's a great small supermarket on site with not bad prices.
Negatives The electric hook ups. For each area there are only four international three pin connectors and the rest (maybe ten or so) European plugs. We didn't have a converter. however staff were amazing in asking around other campers if they could swap. Maybe worth offering converters to rent or better, borrow or offer more three pin connections. There was heavy rain when we were there and the ground became very muddy. Would benefit from more gravel on pitches to help with drainage maybe. Our pitch was on the far end of the site so it was a ten minute walk to get out of the site. Which when added to the walk into town became a while. But what the rush, we were on holiday. I think my partner was frustrating because the website offered a swimming pool as a facility to the site however, when asked they offered a 50% discount to the pool at their partner hotel.
On the whole a very enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend.
P.s. Stay with you laundry. We lost some belongings when other guests removed our laundry before the time on the driers was up. Not sure how they did this. The tries where then busy for hours after this. More dries please camp. However, this was just after a...
Read moreThis camping has an amazing location. That is almost all it has that is good.
We were greeted by an enormously rude receptionist who told us the camping was full right away and shoved a paper in our face with the name of another camping to go to. We knew there were still pitches available because we checked online before going to the camping. Turned out only the camper part of the camping was full, for tents there was plenty of space left.
So if you have a tent, be fast to tell them that!
We still prefered to have a camper pitch, so we suggested to stay with our tent on a tent pitch for one night, and on a camper pitch with our van for the 3 following nights. According to this receptionist, this was impossible, because the minimum required stay in this camping is 3 days. (?) So we had to leave and make a reservation (with reservation fee) for the next day, for 3 nights on a camper spot. Even though that night there was plenty of space for us in our tent, on a tent pitch.
Other than that, the camping entrance is blocked every afternoon by campers who are (trying to) check in, to the point that no cars can enter the camping.
The sanitaires are far from the pitches and the nearest one to the reception is being cleaned every moring between around 8 and 10 for +-2 hours, so you have to go to an even further sanitary. The cleaning also still didn't make it very clean..
There are no water taps near the pitches, for that you have to go the sanitaires.
Our stay ended a bit better by another receptionist who asked us how our stay was and then apologized after hearing our rough start. So maybe this review could have been very different with another receptionist on our not-first night.
I would still recommend going to this camping because it's location is just perfect to make some beautiful hikes around lake Bled, but really, be sure to make a reservation. It will save you a lot of cursing. And know that is has to be a minimum of 3 nights, but 3 nights there is just good to see what you...
