We went to the Lebo M and Hans Zimmer Concert. What a disappointment!
Just before the intermission my Fiancé went to the bathroom. During that time the second act of the concert had begun. I got a phone call from her during the second act asking me to urgently come to the door. I immediately got up and took her coat and my jersey and went to see if everything was alright as I could tell in her voice that she was distressed. Upon arriving at Door 3 the security lady suddenly wanted to search my Fiancés coat and my jersey that I had in my hand. I told her that this made absolutely no sense as I had just come from INSIDE the venue and that searching my clothes is absolutely ridiculous. My Fiancé was standing with ice creams that she wanted to surprise me with for the last half of the concert. The security told her that she was not allowed to go inside with the ice creams as food was not allowed in the venue. What made absolutely no sense was that before she went to go buy ice creams there were already multiple groups of people in the venue eating food and ice cream and we spoke about how their ice creams looked really good. I told the security lady that she must come inside the venue and walk with me so that I can show her, as she should first escort those people out before she has a problem with us if we are not allowed in as that is completely unfair. She refused to do anything and didn't proceed to reason with me and told us to either throw our ice creams away or eat them outside. I then found out that they wouldn't even let my Fiancé in even if she would've put the ice creams down to go inside so that she could call me to come out to eat it. They forced her to call me on her phone as they wouldn't let her into the venue even without the ice creams. What if I didn't answer my phone and she was stuck outside the venue!? This is completely unacceptable, I paid almost R5000 for these tickets, just for my Fiancé to be told that she no longer has access to the venue even though she would be going in without breaking any rules. The principle of allowing other people inside the venue to continue eating their food and ice creams and banning us from going in and even having the audacity to stop my Fiancé from going in without the ice creams is beyond unacceptable. We have reguarly been to Grand West Casino where we spent plenty of money. They will never see us...
Read moreWe had a girls night out and had a wonderful evening. The parking, and getting in and out of GrandWest was a bit of a nightmare, especially because of the many attendees of the show we were going to watch. The fact that the parking could be paid for upfront, helped immensely. Thank you for the initiative.
There are way to little restaurants and restaurant space to accommodate attendees of sold out shows arriving earlier in order to get parking. We had to wait (stand) in line (my mom is a pensioner of 65 with severe back problems who struggles to stand and walk for long periods at a time) 55minutes to get seating in Spur for instance. They did not take names and number of people in the party, so there would be a table of 6 open and they would seat 3 people there. Where as a party of six could have been seated. They only workerd from the front persons in line. I needed to ask for seating inside for my mom, who was in severe pain at that stage, which was not received very kindly by the person standing in the doorway who later on disappeared in any case.
I know you get are flustered/a little overwhelmed when there are so many clients, waiting to be seated and in the restaurant, but a smile and kindness costs nothing. I am also of the opinion that there sould be made more of an effort assisting older, more fragile people with seating if they need to wait and not make them feel like they are an inconvenience.
The staff was also bickering in from of us regarding our bill, which is not professional. The manager were standing there while this took place, but did not address the situation.
The casino and restaurant areas were clean and all the lights were very inviting.
The elevators were not turned on, which again made it very difficult for my mom to climb them as stairs, as we needed to go upstairs for our seating. I really think the elderly need to be considered more.
The bathrooms were clean. Thank...

This was easily the worst concert experience of my life. Firstly, Hans Zimmer who we came to see, went on stage for maybe 5 minutes and the rest was everything else. Secondly, after the intermission many groups of people had food and ice-cream in the venue. Thus, I wanted to surprise my Fiancé with an ice-cream as everybody else was eating their ice-cream in the venue. However, once I arrived at the venue's Door 3, I was told that "Nobody is allowed to bring in food nor ice-cream, if I wanted to eat it, I must stand out side of the venue" (missing the show which we paid thousands to see). I proceeded to tell the security lady at Door 3 that many groups of people had ice-cream and food inside the venue, which they were actively eating. I called my Fiancé who was still inside to come out and explain the situation to the security. As soon as he arrived they suddenly wanted to start searching my coat and his jersey that he was holding in his hand. He asked them why, as he already obviously came from inside the venue. This led to a massive argument breaking out about how we are not allowed to take any food inside even though there were already groups of people inside eating. We told the security lady to please go inside and look as we knew where those groups of people were. She refused to go and look and told us to either throw our ice creams away or to eat them outside. After 5 minutes of back and forth arguing about how it's not fair for other people to be inside the venue eating food and ice-creams, we decided to leave the concert as it was completely unfair and the arguing ruined the whole atmosphere. We ended up not watching our concert finished and left. The biggest waste of money. We will never attend another concert at Grand West...
