So where do we even start, Cape Town Waiting Market ?
I had a very bad experience Saturday, July 2nd 2022, went there around 6:50 with a bunch of friends. Got a table and waited 10 mins before someone came to get our orders.
Called Nicholas about 3 times during these 10mins before he eventually came. We ordered 5, beers, two sodas and 1 piña colada and ordered food as well. It took 18 mins before we had enough and wanted to leave. One of my friends stood up to ask if we could cancel our orders and leave, Nicholas then said he has a 20 seaters table, therefore he is busy but our drinks are coming.
He came 5mins later with all the drinks, his face had closed, he was mad we complained and wanted to leave.
But that was 33mins just to get drinks. And there was only one cocktail which was the only thing that had to be "made".
Waited another 15 mins to get our food (which is I guess reasonable time, after getting drinks).
We ordered two soles, which were very good, two 4x5 sushi platter, prawns were small, and it weren't well seasoned at all, three fish and chips which were okay, and one ribs and chips which was really not it (wouldn't recommend).
Not once after we got our food, or even when we actually stood up to leave did Nicholas asked us if the food was good or if we were okay.
We cleared the table ourselves, piling and putting plates and drinks where he could reach it easily and take it without giving him too much work. Not once did he say thanks, just took the plates without even looking at us. And at some point he just never came back
At this point, we were fed up. Asked a lady for the bill, she left we waited 5 mins and just stood up and wanted to pay by the till.
Bill came to a total of R1480 and 10% service fee was already included. We had decided not to give anything to Nicholas nor the Restaurant actually cause I mean we deserve some kind of respect.
We were pretty mad about that service fee but just added the tip to whatever we ordered as we were paying separately.
Even then, just to have us pay, bill was already printed but apparently Nicholas had to "make us pay", give us the card machine so we could tap, etc. One of us paid cash and put it into the tab the bill came in. Nicholas left without taking it and the money just sat there forever, where anyone could have taken it.
Because we all paid separately, he had to go and count if everything was in order before we could leave, left the money on the tab and just went with the receipts.
Then we waited another 10 mins before we went looking for him, Mr Nicholas was waiting another table, meanwhile we were waiting for him, tell me about disrespect.
Called him three times, before that lady decided to take care of us. Said we short paid of R252,2. We then gave her the cash that Nicholas so kindly left on the counter. We were still short of R60,2.
We were arguing that because we made sure we added that UNDESERVED service fee to our respective bills. Anyways, the lady said we aren't forced to pay that service fee if we don't want to.
Told her, it's fine, paid it. Cause if it wasn't mandatory why did we have to wait 30 mins just to pay a bill, why didn't they want to let us go ?
All in all, never setting foot there again, nor in any other CTFM all over the universe, will tell everyone I know and everyone that asks me it's not worth it.
And Nicholas, you didn't deserve that service fee, your service was close to inexistant and if you did take that money, let me tell you it will never help you, you won't do anything with those R148, they might even get stolen.
Thank you Cape Town Fish Market Grand West Casino for the worst ending to what started as an...
Read moreSweet and short, i took my partner to cape town fish market for a birth day dinner, on our arrival we stood at the door with out any one helping us, although there were 3 people behind the cash desk and i think one of them was a manager. a other person came from across the dining area to seat, we were seated at the back in the corner , the waiter gave us the menu and we orderd a glass of red wine, and kwv and coke.. we waited about 15 min for our drinks, yet the shop is not busy .. the waiter then came and took our meal order and we have decided to go with the prawn/hake and calamari platter for two.. the waiter explain that it comes with rice.and i then order exstra chips, we waited about 30 min for the food, when the food was deliverd to our table, i was shocked to see the little bit of calamari maybe 50grams , and the chips looked so old and dry, not to talk about the prawns. i then called the waiter over and asked for the manager , she then said she bring exstra chips and fixed the portion of calamari, then the waiter bring chips, as well not even 80g , and also looked old dry.. still we havent start to eat cause we are waiting for the calamari, when the calamari came, the manager put it on the table, not saying any thing and left, by now there was a big table that just came in and sat down next to us. .. so i put the exstra calamari on the platter plate , as i start to dish up for my self i took a piece of calamari as i bite into it it was still very very raw, and i told my partner stop dont dish, the table next to us asked me whats wrong and i show them the raw calamari, i called the manager over, she cam but you can see she was not in the mood to assist us, she stood there and i show her, she had no words to say, maybe she was tiered or some thing.. the table next to us stood up and left the shop. the manager turned around and said some thing but i could not hear what she said. so we sat for about another 10 min with no one coming to our table, so i stood up walked over to the cash desk and asked can i please get my bill, the waiter then said " do you want a doggy bag : keep in mind we have not eaten any food yet. so the bill was given to us , with the meal still on it, and i said why must i pay for food i didnt even eat at all, waiter took the bill out of my hands and said okay will tell the manager, we end up paying for our drinks, and left,,, i will never never go to cape town fish market in Grand west ever again,, its not that i want any freebies, i just want to get what i paid for.... maybe you guys dont care about customers and there experience, but this was just so so so...
Read moreGood evening,
I was browsing through the reviews Cape Town Fish Market restaurant and it was so peculiar to see that such a prestigious restaurant has such a low rating but I know why now. Let me share my experience with you. Myself and two others decided to go for lunch yesterday (Saturday 25th July 2020) and we had such an horrendous experience. It started with seating, the seats had to be arranged in a specific order for us to be covid19 compliant which is all fine and well but why was this not done before hand. I could count how many customers were in the restaurant, no more than 8 people. Secondly, our waiter, was very unpleasant and not at all interested in attending to us swiftly. Generally I would understand provided that the restaurant is fairly full but in this case service should have been more attentive. The meals provided took long to be received but the worst and most gruesome part was the fact that the prawns had not been de-veined in the platter we had ordered. We cannot afford to get sick in these times, we are going through a world pandemic and I feel that this is unacceptable. I am not heartless, I understand that many industries are suffering during this pandemic especially the hospitality industry, however, what happened next was shocking. I approached the manager to inform him about the prawns and he's response was 'thank you for telling me, I will let the chef know'. He did not walk straight to the kitchen nor did he come back to us with any feedback of some sort. Our bill came to a thousand and that is the level of service Cape Town fish Market displays?. I would like this matter to...
