My recent dining experience at Che Argentine Grill was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was transported to the heart of Argentina, and the flavors, aromas, and warm ambiance made for an unforgettable evening.
The moment I stepped into Che Argentine Grill, I was greeted by the enticing aroma of grilled meats and the warm, rustic decor that set the perfect stage for an authentic Argentine dining experience. The restaurant's ambiance is inviting and cozy, making it an ideal spot for a romantic dinner, a family gathering, or a night out with friends.
As a self-proclaimed steak enthusiast, I was in carnivore heaven. The menu offers a delightful selection of prime cuts, and I opted for the ribeye steak. From the very first bite, I could tell that the meat was of the highest quality, cooked to absolute perfection, and seasoned with the distinct Argentine flair that makes their steaks famous worldwide. It was tender, juicy, and had that incredible smoky flavor that I'd been craving.
But Che Argentine Grill offers more than just exquisite steaks. The empanadas were a delightful appetizer, and the chimichurri sauce added a zesty kick that perfectly complemented the flavors. The grilled vegetables and sweet potato fries were a fantastic accompaniment, adding a touch of balance to the rich, meaty main course.
The service was impeccable. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and provided recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. They made us feel genuinely welcome, creating an atmosphere that was as warm as the food was delicious.
For dessert, we indulged in a classic Argentine treat - the flan. It was silky, sweet, and an excellent way to end a meal that left us fully satisfied. The Malbec wine from the extensive wine list was the perfect complement to our culinary journey.

Read moreChe Argentine grill is the best of the breed when it comes to steakhouses in Johannesburg. I don't know much about Argentinian cuisine but the simple flavours had me craving more the day after.
We dined on Thursday evening which was quite chilly out but the restaurant offered a warm industrial cosy vibe. There's intimate seats for couples and space for large groups of 4, 6 and more spread across the floor. I would urge you to make a reservation if you plan on coming in for dinner just to be safe.
Loved the fresh bread they served however it came 5 minutes before our order which was a shame cause it was delicious. It had a nice golden brown crispy crust and it was light and airy on the inside. Went well with the chimchurri sauce which is the only sauce you'll use i.e. don't be like me and ask for ketchup for your chips, they don't stock it 😂
The main was to die for and I carried leftovers and it was as good and tender the next day. I had the spider cut (forgot the name of the dish on the menu) which was seasoned perfectly, medium rare and tender. So tender it was literally melting in my mouth. It was heaven! It came with sides which is a great deal if you didn't want to break the bank. I went with papa fritas which are salted fried chips.
Also had the ensalada de rucula which is a rocket, tomato, feta and cashew salad drizzled in balsamic vinegar. It balanced out the whole meal well.
For dessert, my partner and I shared the panqueque which was a great choice as a sharing meal as the level of sweetness is up there. The panqueque consisted of a crêpe filled with dulce de leche (looks like caramel but it isn't) and served with a slice of brandy soaked pear, coffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. My only wish was maybe more slices of pear and less dulce de leche as the latter was overpowering if you're sweet tooth tolerance is medium.
Lastly, the wines! They have a great selection of wines to offer. As we we're dining Argentinian, I went with the Alma Mora Malbec 2017 from San Juan. This is a rich sweet smelling ruby red wine. I can't describe how it truly tastes like as it melted away with the steak and dessert perfectly. But definitely light bodied.
Hope this review helps, I'm already planning my next visit with a...
Read moreThe Che Argentine Grill is a very nice and viby restaurant place. The interior design meets maybe not everyones taste — to me it's way too grungy and dark — but it's looks at least modern and styled. The service was very friendly and courteous and the wine selection is very nice. Some of the starters were already not available right in the beginning, but the service staff weren't informed about that at all.
The grilled marrowbones were served on a wooden plate. First wooden plates are unhygienic in a very disgusting way. And second a plain wooden plate cannot hold back the fluid fat of the marrowbones. I'm only happy that my jacket wasn't affected of that mess on that table. The guacamole had a nice avocado taste (what else), but I was missing salt, pepper, garlic, cumin and maybe some chillies. Someone forgot the ingredients of a nice guacamole.
It's a steak restaurant and the restaurant made the promise that we might could have some nice Argentinian steaks. But that's not the truth! The menu explained that the steaks are not coming from South America but from South Africa. That's okay to my opinion, if the quality is not worse than an average Argentinian example. BUT ... I have to say that I've been there at a Saturday evening and the restaurant was very well booked. The kitchen was eager to process continually all meal orders, but that is still not the right excuse for some serious mistakes in the kitchen. Long story short: The rare medium ordered ribeye was medium to well-done and the medium ordered prime rib was english! Both parts felt like chewing gum. The meat wasn't enough matured at all. The meat quality was only bad. The sides were okay.
Instead of my first terrible impression, I will maybe go there again. Some of my friends like that place instead. Anyway. I will see if they only had a bad day or if it's standard what I got for...
