Beaulieu Bird Sanctuary — Attraction in Johannesburg Ward 94

This is the idyllic setting in which the Beaulieu Bird Sanctuary is situated, within a gated community in Kyalami. This sanctuary is home to a fantastic array of species that make for excellent bird identification and photography.

There are three bird hides in the sanctuary, each of which promise a unique perspective of many species as they bask in the sun, feed, or build their nests. Tranquil, well maintained little park. Entrance is free. The trail goes around the dam and is approximately 1.2km.

You will typically see ducks and Egyptian goose. On occasion I've seen a few other smaller bird species.

Not maintained at all. There was a joburg parks zoo car there but they just park there. Not a good place for a picnic. The hiking trail had sewage and stinks bad, so not advisable. The path has barriers to prevent you from falling down the embankment but most of the logs are broken so you have to be super careful. Very few birds and fewer nests these days.
