🌊🐧 Boulders Visitor Centre – Table Mountain National Park
A must-visit gem in Cape Town! The Boulders Visitor Centre offers a beautifully maintained walkway through the protected penguin colony at Boulders Beach. The setting is stunning — granite boulders, turquoise waters, and hundreds of adorable African penguins waddling and swimming in their natural habitat.
The wooden boardwalks make it easy to explore without disturbing the wildlife, and there’s informative signage throughout about penguin conservation. The entrance fee is reasonable and helps fund the protection of the species, which is a bonus.
✅ Highlights: • Seeing penguins up close in the wild • Clean facilities and safe pathways • Friendly staff and well-maintained surroundings
💡 Tip: Come early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. Don’t forget your camera — and your patience — the penguins love to pose on their own schedule!
📍 Ideal for families, nature lovers, and anyone who wants a unique South African...
Read moreI'm only commenting and giving a review on the visitor centre, not the actual beach with penguins. We queued in the line for the beach for 2 hours - make sure to book online if you're coming on the weekend. After 1 hour of waiting, a lady started going around with a piece of paper that had the official website written on it and urged us to get tickets online to skip the line. However, there was very poor signal and no public wifi to buy the tickets. We tried with several phones multiple times. When we finally reached the top of the line, we were told the card machines stopped working. We were waiting another 30 minutes to get inside because the staff were unable to fix this issue. They don't take cash and they can't use the card machines from the gift shop, so it's either you wait for it to start working or you give up. Everyone was super frustrated! The Foxy beach was lovely but took 5 minutes to go around so we were quite annoyed by all the queuing! In the future, think outside the box and fix the...
Read moreThis time, we decided to explore the indoor area for the first time. It begins with wooden pathways that are easy to navigate but eventually lead to sections with numerous steps. Take your time here—nature reveals its beauty when you slow down or even stand still. Some penguins wandered alone, lost in their own worlds, while others huddled close, looking like devoted pairs. If you pay attention, you might spot a dassie (rock hyrax) perched on a tree or basking nearby. Birds also stroll along the beach, adding to the lively atmosphere of this open sanctuary. It’s heartwarming to know that there are multiple sanctuaries like this, dedicated to protecting penguins and their habitats. Their efforts are a testament to the importance of conservation, and I’m deeply grateful for the...
