Les Cigarreres — Attraction in Alicante

Could I give a cultural centre less than five stars? In this day and age, I rather think not. Just the fact that it exists is wonderful. It is a large centre, with a central gallery, a theatre at the back and various smaller spaces that are let out to artists and groups of artists. I went along for the first time for an event with SoundLab, a musician's collective that has a space for electronic music experiments. The place was airy and clean, the receptionist was helpful (although I didn't try him with English, I ought to next time). There was an exhibit of large scale landscape photographs. The toilets were clean. There was a children's play area at the front. The coffee in the bar is good and well-made. The only trick was street parking. It could have been easier than it was, but after a couple of loops, I found a spot. Recommend? Yes, absolutely. ...

Entre a trabajar en la obra de las cigarreras obra del ayuntamiento nos hacen trabajar 11 horas nos pagan 8 y además me despidieron por reclamar ya que a los oficiales les pagan a 65 eur el día y haciendo 11 horas otros 10 depende lo que él quiera y además de todo la subcontrata llevo 2 semanas esperando mi sueldo ya que dimiti y no me abonan estafan a los trabajadores ya que las empresas cobran por horas y te ofrecen sueldo y tienes que hacer las horas que quieran callo un chico por que no hay seguridad en la obra y se clavó un clavo en la pierna y no lo dejaron ir a la mutua por si le hacen inspección laboral y de seguridad que no tiene ninguna y tienen a la gente sin guantes sin seguridad son unos estafadores y estoy en proceso de poner una denuncia a la constructora y la subcontrata ya que me an dicho haz lo que quieras no te vamos a pagar son unos ladrones y es una vergüenza que el ayuntamiento de alicante tenga al personal de la obra de esa manera y tengan esas empresas ladronas trabajando y dejando a los trabajadores sin cobrar algunos y todavía te amenazan ya que una empresa es de unos rusos el encargado es Eugenio y Yury y van como de mafia y no pagan llevo 15 días esperando el cobro y no hay manera me dan largas y me an bloqueado el teléfono para que no les llame para pedir mi dinero mañana iré a la obra a pedir datos de la empresa constructora y denunciaré a ambas menos mal que solo estuve una semana ya que no tienen medios para trabajar vino la tele a grabar y por miedo a que nos vieran sin la seguridad pertinente nos mandaron a almorzar a todos es una vergüenza que el ayuntamiento de alicante permita esa clase de abuso laboral y tenga a esas empresas que aún encima de trabajar con ellos para ellos no pagan y todos se...

I like Las Cigarreras. It's a bit different in that the exhibitions and what not are all a bit left field. Sometimes they are really interesting and sometimes they are outright stupid but they are never boring. This time we went for an event called Urban Tactics - graffiti, djs, whatever rapping is called nowadays. It was a bit dull but I would still give it the thumbs up. At least they tried! And just to add that we saw Axalotes Mexicanos there a while ago and they were stupendous and we only paid 3€. For that I'll love...
