MUHBA Turó de la Rovira

Definitely on of the must-see things in Barcelona. During the sunny day you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Barcelona! It is often overcrowded, especially when the sun goes down. It is for free, after a few minutes of walking you can get there.

The MUHBA Turó de la Rovira, also known as the Bunkers del Carmel, is a fascinating historical and cultural site in Barcelona, Spain. Located on the Turó de la Rovira hill, it offers a unique blend of history, stunning views, and local culture.

About MUHBA Turó de la Rovira

History:

• The site was originally a strategic location used for anti-aircraft defenses during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939).

• The anti-aircraft batteries were installed to protect Barcelona from aerial bombings by Franco’s forces and their allies.

• After the war, the area became a shantytown where many impoverished families lived until the 1990s.

Museum and Restoration:

• The site is part of the MUHBA (Barcelona History Museum) network, which restored the bunkers and turned them into an open-air museum.

• The exhibition showcases the history of the Spanish Civil War and post-war life, along with information about urban transformations in Barcelona.

Panoramic Views:

• Turó de la Rovira is famous for its 360-degree panoramic views of Barcelona, making it a favorite spot for photographers, tourists, and locals.

• From the top, you can see landmarks such as the Sagrada Família, the Mediterranean Sea, and Montjuïc Hill.

Cultural Significance:

• The site represents Barcelona’s resilience during times of war and its evolution into a modern city.

• It’s also a symbol of how the city has preserved its historical memory while adapting to...

Introduction: Bunkers del Carmel, located atop Turó de la Rovira in Barcelona, is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking breathtaking panoramic views of the city. This historical site offers a 360-degree perspective of Barcelona, where visitors can marvel at landmarks like the Sagrada Família, Montjuïc, and the Mediterranean Sea.

Experience: Reaching the Bunkers requires a bit of effort, as visitors must hike up steep streets. However, the reward at the top is absolutely worth it. The stunning views, especially during sunset, are mesmerizing and provide a unique perspective of the city’s beauty.

During my visit, I aimed to catch the sunset, but local police arrived to enforce the new evening closure rules, and the area was cleared before I could fully enjoy the moment. Despite this, the scenery and the tranquil ambiance made the visit unforgettable.

Tips for Visitors: • Timing: Arrive early to make the most of your time before the site closes. The area is now closed from 7:30 PM (summer) or 5:30 PM (winter) as part of new regulations implemented to control crowds. • Preparation: Bring water and light snacks, but remember to respect the site and take your trash with you. • Accessibility: Be prepared for a moderately steep climb to reach the top, but the effort is worth it for the incredible views.

Conclusion: Bunkers del Carmel is a fantastic spot to experience the charm of Barcelona from above. Despite the new restrictions, it remains a highlight of any trip to the city. The views, the history, and the unique atmosphere make it a destination that should...

A nice place if (like me) you're into photography and carry a powerful tele-lens everywhere. The view can be breath-taking. The pictures I'm posting here were made with my Mi Note 14 pro phone but the "real" ones, taken with a Nikon and 650mm tele-lens are something else. If you can, go early in the morning or late in the evening as the sun, at the time I was there, shines from the opposite side making images quite flat. The V19 bus will leave you, on it's last stop, a mere 200 meters (climb) from the top, making it very convenient. The Catalan "old" people we met in the bust were very helpful, in contrast with the younger locals who are definitely not well educated and oblivious to the importance of the impact of tourism in Barcelona's economy. Tourists should behave and be civil, locals should be demanding and helpful. Seems youngsters have abused the Bunkers recently, throwing load raves with lots of drinking and drugs abuse, and the local management closes the access to this place before sundown, nowadays. A pity. I bet the sunset, seen from here must be amazing. Keep the Bunkers on your shortlist of places to visit if you're into...
