A small museum showcasing local works. Worth a visit if you love art. €1.50 entry or free for European citizens. Be careful to go to the right museum. The person at the ticket desk, or rather near the ticket desk chatting to someone, told me to go inside to the right and insisted even when I asked again. That turned out to be the entrance to the Julio Romero de Torres museum which costs €4 payable only by card. It might be fine, but it wasn’t what I came to see. I went back to the first ticket booth and ended up getting an entry ticket to the museum of Fine Art which is what I came to see. It shouldn’t be that hard to enter a public museum. Almost everything deserves its place, it covers a wide range from Renaissance to today and has a small but especially strong section of 20th century sculpture. Just enjoy it but don't fail to leave time for the Julio Romero de Torres museum across the courtyard. This is perhaps the jewel in the crown. Not much known outside Spain he is such a wonderful painter. He loves women and paints them with exuberance, joy and profound if playful respect. Read moreThis is a super gallery, featuring some permanent artworks, with a space for temporary exhibitions. Accessed via a charming garden, it is housed in a former hospital (among various other previous uses), and is, itself, a beautiful building. Particularly striking are some artworks painted on the original plasterwork of a very impressive stairway, those images dating back to the 14th century.
