On a cruise from Liverpool. First stop at Cartagena for a coach tour to Murcia. Very good tour guide and tried hard to make everything interesting - saw the "casino" which seems to be a glorified club for the well heeled, the cathedral (which is interesting and has the largest number of side chapels I have seen!) And the bell tower. If you go and they tell you it's an easy walk, DON'T believe them! The climb starts with a series of ramps that wind round the inside of the square shaped tower that seem to get steeper and steeper as you go up, followed by a narrow spiral staircase that leads first to the clock floor then further up to the bell floor. Read moreThis is a port with a lot of history. It is a major large cruise ship port. Parking is easy to use and is underground right there at the port in Calle Alfonso II just off the mini traffic island near ‘ Burger King ‘ A short walk from there to the port quayside with a few bars and restaurants. Then crossing the road is the entrance to a very nice shopping precinct which has many shops, bars and restaurants. At the entrance to the first precinct are a few bronzed figures that depict the naval conscription of young Spanish men who were made to join the navy many years ago. This precinct conjoins with another and then continues into narrower streets where you’ll find Tapas bars and other historical buildings. The Roman amphitheatre is set up to the right and well worth the climb up a short distance on foot. Cartagena is a...
