Despite being completely different monuments, the Roman amphitheater and theater are built side by side. I left the amphitheater and the hustle and bustle became visible around the theater: they were putting together a show for that night inside the venue. The facade of the monument was covered with cables, lights, metal structures and large containers. In the interior space, the stage entrance was full of scenery elements and technological artefacts that did not allow for a convenient observation of that Roman wonder. The half-moon benches were saved, where you could clearly see pieces of history told through the stones from various eras that made up the staircase. It was, therefore, a disappointment. I felt sorry, because the theater's stage is truly spectacular; It deserved to be admired in better conditions. That said, I find it extraordinary that the city uses the Roman theater for contemporary shows. The ruins are no longer just that, ruins. Too bad it was the day I visited them. Roman Theater of Mérida The stands of the Roman theater in Mérida It is true that we missed seeing much of the heritage included in the Archaeological Complex of Mérida. If I had more time, I would have at least visited the Circus, the Los Milagros Aqueduct, and perhaps the National Museum of Roman Art. The trip would have been richer, but I still left satisfied. The city's historical heritage is truly impressive.
