La Alameda's Castle — Attraction in Madrid

This castle feels more like a fort. Regardless it’s truly beautiful. I was able to get in for free and the worker was very kind and telling me about this place and giving me a brochure so I could understand in English.

Built in 1431, this castle was in complete ruins for hundreds of years until they restored it to the best of their abilities with the original materials. Of course they can’t exactly restore it exactly to how it used to be but to whatever materials used for it lying around they put it back up. You’re able to walk around the whole castle. There’s also a church from around the same time, a house built next to it which is also in ruins and a WW1 Bunker next to it. You’re able to walk around the castle and read its descriptions and history of the castle and the area. Lastly you’re also able to go inside and get a closer look inside the castle at the end of the walk. Very beautiful...

Lovely little ruined castle. It is free. It is not open 24/7 it has a gate. The gentleman there was very nice and offered us water which we gratefully accepted, he topped up our water bottle with his big water bottle. He also offered us parasols. It is a very hot day and there is no shade, you walk a little route around the castle, then cross the bridge into it. The visit takes no longer than 30 mins. A must see if you are in the area. Este monumento es un claro ejemplo de la arquitectura militar del siglo XV. Es uno de lo pocos o único que queda en Madrid. En donde se alza estas ruinas existe aún restos de asentamientos antiguos desde la Edad del Bronce hasta la época romana. En el siglo XV, entre las aldeas mediavales de la Alameda y Barajas, la familia Mendoza construyó un castillo con una alta torre, un patio central que daba vida a la actividad interna del castillo, una fosa defensiva apoyada de una barrera con torres en las esquinas. Luego está castillo fue transformado en el siglo XVI en un palacio con un jardin renacentista, fuentes y albercas, luego otros miembros de la aristocracia madrileña contra yerno varias villas en los arededores, como los Duques de Osuna y su palacete El Capricho del siglo XVIII que esta muy cerca el da el nombre a la zona "Alameda de Osuna". Aquí no para la historia del castillo. En la Guerra Civil también se deja sentir en la retaguardia del frente del Jarama, en el mando del general Miaja que estaba en el bunker de El Capricho, pero el castillo se empleó como fortín y a su lado existe un nido de ametralladoras. Tanto el castillo y su entorno han sido objeto de varias campañas de excavaciones arqueológicas y y aún se conservan vestigios de todas las épocas: poblado prehistórico, el cementerio, el panteón de los Fernández Nuñez, así como el nido de ametralladoras.
