Some of the aquariums look fine, but many leave me with a feeling of sadness and compassion for the creatures deprived of their natural environment and even conditions barely resembling them.. The purple Lobster, being a stunning animal, needs rearranging in particular. I am not an expect, but it just looked very wrong. He could barely turn around with all his feelers and such outstreched, contained in very small aquarium with no burrow or crevice to hide in (whiches, as I am learning, lobsters find very necessary to feel safe and comfortable). They usually find rocks for shelter or simply burrow in muddy sand, none of which was made available for above mentioned.. The bare aquarium of the Lobster, as well as a few other ones with creatures pressed against the glass or such as that of jellyfishes enclosed in a small container spinning in circles with artificial current, made me feel deeply sad and disturbed... I believe that institution claiming to be preserving wild marine life, is bound to give more concern to...
Read moreA perfect place to spend a pleasant time with your family and children. Even at the entrance, you are greeted by the skeletons of whales, which are huge. On the 1st floor, there are many interesting models of ships, which are made to the smallest detail, such as the barrels on the deck, as well as many other exhibits of weapons used by sailors, diving suits and real cabins and rooms in ships. We were with a small child who once did not ask when we were leaving, it was also very interesting. The aquarium which is on level -1 is of course the highlight of the visit and is unique. I recommend going around noon. Then in the aquarium with sharks, stingrays and other fish a diver comes down who feeds him by hand and there is a place where you can sit and watch. Video is prohibited, only photos are allowed. The staff is extremely friendly. There are toilets between the levels and a souvenir shop at the exit. The museum itself is located on the promenade, there is a paid underground...
Read moreI’m currently volunteering away in Santander, and this museum popped up when looking for something to do. I was excited to see there was an aquarium on the bottom floor, but it was a depressing sight. Many of the fish were displaying concerning behaviours associated with stress and depression. Burrowing at the side of the tanks, some not even swimming at all; just laying there, some swimming in repeated circles. The water appears dirty, and the tanks are TINY. One fish was stuck in a rock display, clearly in distress and the staff did not seem to care at all. There was a lobster in a tank that is the size of a small box. The lack of care is just horrible. It was incredibly depressing, and I had to leave early. I’d recommend not endorsing this museum because the animal cruelty is clear. I give it two stars because the staff were incredibly accommodating in me speaking English, and even helped me with a student discount. Such a shame the animal cruelty...
