Wow! I’ve always had a deep admiration for architectural marvels, and the cathedral in Mysore is nothing short of phenomenal. It’s built in a European-inspired style, which is quite rare to find in India, giving it an added touch of charm and elegance that perfectly complements the already captivating beauty of Mysore. While there are impressive cathedrals across other states, this one stands out due to its contemporary construction, intricate design, and abundant space, creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors to explore and appreciate. For those who share the same faith, this cathedral is truly a place worth experiencing firsthand. Even with tourists coming and going, the interior remains calm and tranquil, offering a serene space for reflection and prayer. I highly recommend adding this hidden gem to your itinerary when visiting Mysore—it’s an experience that should not be missed! Outside, there’s a spacious area around the cathedral where families can relax, children can play freely, and visitors can unwind while enjoying the surroundings. The beautifully maintained park encircling the cathedral is perfect for a leisurely walk with loved ones, whether you’re with a partner, friends, or family. It’s the ideal spot to take in the peaceful atmosphere, have meaningful conversations, or simply enjoy a quiet stroll. Make sure to visit—it’s an unforgettable highlight in Mysore!

A church at the same location was built in the year 1843 during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar III and the Commission Rule. An inscription which was there at the time of laying the foundation of the present church in 1933 states: "In the name of that only God – the universal Lord who creates, protects, and reigns over the universe of Light, the mundane world and the assemblage of all created lives – this church is built 1843 years after the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Enlightenment of the World, as man". In 1926, T. Thumboo Chetty, private secretary to Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, obtained a relic of the saint from Peter Pisani, the apostolic delegate of the East Indies.[6] This relic was handed over to Father Cochet, who approached the maharaja in assisting him construct a church in honour of St. Philomena.[8] The Maharaja laid the foundation stone of the church on 28 October 1933. In his speech on the day of the inauguration, he said: "The new church will be strongly and securely built upon a double foundation — Divine compassion and the eager gratitude of men."[8] The construction of the church was completed under Bishop Rene Feuga's supervision. The relic of Saint Philomena is preserved in a catacomb below the main altar.[6] This church is a good example of a blend of local culture. Some of the female statues are in sarees, a traditional Indian attire.
