The round trip tickets to Jungfraujoch cost nearly CHF 200, which is quite expensive. So it's highly recommended to travel there only when the weather is clear. You can check up on the weather forecast and book your tickets directly from Lauterbrunnen station. Car parking is available next to the station too.
The views from Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg are absolutely stunning. We saw the gradual transition of landscape from green to white as Kleine Scheidegg was completely snow covered. The trains are very well designed and we were comforted throughout our journey. The second train from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfrajoch is mostly inside a tunnel and thus was boring. The overall upwards trip from Lauterbrunnen to Jungfraujoch took about 90 mins.
We were unfortunate to face unexpected bad weather and could only visit the Sphinx Observatory where it was snowing. It was a great experience. The outdoor ice plateau was closed due to the snow. The visibility was zero outside. We went through the usual touristy attractions like Ice Tunnel and others, which was an average experience for me personally. What I thoroughly enjoyed was the Lindt shop which was selling chocolates at discounted prices (much less than retail and at the airport) quite contrary to what you'd expect at Jungfraujoch. Do make your purchases there. There was also a Bollywood restaurant serving Indian food, which left me unimpressed. We spent nearly a couple of hours at the top and then began our journey downwards which took almost 100 minutes. If you're lucky to have clear views, it's a treat for your eyes.
I personally found Mt. Titlis to be better with more activities and better views, but this is the top of Europe and obviously you should not miss it unless you find it...
Read moreWe started the journey to Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe from Lauterbrunnen early in the morning. With the sunrise on the horizon, the snowy hills provided magnificent views. Upon reaching Jungfraujoch, we directly went to the Sphinx Observatory.
Sphinx Observatory is the observation platform situated at Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe and offers magnificent views. On one side, you will be able to see the the Aletsch Glacier & on the other side you will be able to see the plateau running towards Wengen & Lauterbrunnen with the railway track to Jungfraujoch winding through the hills. Make sure to wear a few layers of warm cloths & gloves as it is very cold on the Sphinx Observatory.
Next we walked into the Alpine sensation. When you enter this hallway, it feels as if you are entering a different world. It simply gives a 'Christmas vibe' with the exhibits. More suitable for kids, but equally enjoyable for adults as well.
Ice palace is one of the must visits if you are visiting Jungfraujoch Top of Europe. The tunnel diverts somewhere between the railway station & the observatory. Make sure that you walk carefully on icy floor & wear suitable warm clothes. The ice sculptures are very attractive and some designs are intricate.
Unfortunately, we couldn't go to the Snow Fun Park as it was closed. Overall, the experience was great and we were lucky to have a good weather. Try to go early in the morning to...
Read moreAmazing experience. As always Swiss timing makes it very easy to travel by train to Grindelwald Terminal and from there the Eiger Express gondola - all as part of the Jungfrau Region Pass. The Jungfraujoch railway itself isn't included in the pass but the additional cost includes pretty much everything on Jungfraujoch itself. The sphinx views are terrific, even if you really don't like heights (hint: if you're acrophobic you don't have to go outside at the top - there are benches inside looking out well away from the edge) and the plateau glacier walk fantastic. Be aware this is high (obviously) and altitude can affect you so don't rush. There is an excellent walk to Monchshuttejoch but you need time. The Ice Palace in Jungfraujoch is excellent and for chocolate lovers the Lindt shop brilliant. The cafes aren't fantastic - ok food (the Indian 'Bollywood' was the best self serve, albeit quite expensive). If you want to experience all of it (including the walk) - recommend five hours at the top. Even going up relatively early there were still quite a few people so try and either go up very early or later in the afternoon. Check the weather forecast - you do need a clear day to have the best experience - you don't want cloud/thunderstorms! For the brave and fit there are guided walks across the glacier; regular parties roped together and wearing crampons set off during the day. Overall a very...
