Parc des Eaux-Vives and Parc de La Grange are two iconic parks located on the left bank of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), in the Eaux-Vives district of Geneva. They are adjacent to each other, forming a continuous green space that offers stunning views of the lake and the Jura mountains, making them beloved spots for locals and visitors alike. Parc des Eaux-Vives Parc des Eaux-Vives is one of Geneva’s oldest and most picturesque parks, with origins dating back to the 16th century. The name “Eaux-Vives” (“living waters”) comes from the numerous springs and streams that once flowed through the area, supplying the city with drinking water. Today, these waters are mostly underground, but a small cascade in the park hints at this history. The park spans about 45,000 square meters and slopes gently down toward the lake, bordered by the Quai Gustave-Ador. It’s known for its majestic trees—like firs, pines, and towering sequoias—as well as vibrant rhododendron and azalea blooms in spring. A large lawn stretches from the terrace of the park’s restaurant down to the lake, offering a serene space for relaxation. The park also has a rich history. It was first established in 1565 by Aimé Plonjon, the Lord of Bellerive, and changed hands over the centuries. In 1750, a grand manor house was built, which now houses a renowned hotel and restaurant. In 1865, it was bought by Louis Favre, the engineer behind the Gotthard Tunnel, and later, in 1896, it became a Luna Park with attractions like a theater and miniature train before the commune of Eaux-Vives acquired it in 1913 after the venture failed. Since Geneva absorbed Eaux-Vives in 1931, it has been a public park, managed ecologically without chemicals to promote biodiversity. Parc de La Grange Parc de La Grange, directly connected to Parc des Eaux-Vives via a gate, is Geneva’s largest park, covering around 200,000 square meters. It’s equally historic, also tracing its roots to the 16th century, and is celebrated for its majestic trees, expansive lawns, and breathtaking lake views. The park features the Villa La Grange, an elegant 18th-century mansion that houses a remarkable library of 15,000 books, donated by Guillaume Favre in 1917 when he bequeathed the estate to the city. This villa has hosted notable figures, like Pope Paul VI in 1969 and Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Poutine in 2021. The park’s lower section boasts a stunning rose garden with 400 rose bushes and 4,000 perennials, maintained naturally to support local wildlife. Like Parc des Eaux-Vives, it’s a haven for biodiversity, with features like insect habitats and native meadows where sheep graze in summer. Its dramatic slopes and varied landscapes make it a favorite for strolls and picnics. Connection and Significance Together, these parks create a vast, tranquil oasis in the heart of Geneva, blending natural beauty with historical charm. They’re easily accessible, open 24/7, and offer a peaceful escape with panoramic views of the lake and mountains. Parc des Eaux-Vives has its hotel-restaurant and a tennis club (since 1898), while Parc de La Grange adds cultural depth with its villa and library. Both are maintained sustainably, reflecting Geneva’s commitment to ecological preservation.#switzerland #travel #genava #parcdeseauxvives #parcdelagrange

It is such a lovely and peaceful park. I like that they preserve the nature as much as possible. And the size of the park is so huge that you can keep your distance from other people but have your own quite time in the middle of the park. Although playground for kids is exceptially crowded, it is also good chance for parents to socialize with other parents. Well, in summer the atmosphere might be changed a lot as you can do bbq party here and roses will blossom. And it's near from lac Léman !

This is really a very beautiful well maintained park with beautiful views of Geneva but also of the Jura mountains. We would sit there at the end of the day and watch the sun setting over the mountains- such a beautiful sight and I recommend doing this as least once. There is also a cafe here as well. Dogs are allowed in here and in factvthere is a dog park her as well that is enormous so check it out if you have a dog. There is lots of wildlife here so keep a lookout for the beauty❤

We were walking along the Geneva waterfront and came to this park at the other end. It is a very large space with lots of space on the grounds. It is a beautiful park with gorgeous florals by the main house. It was a very nice e photo spot with the floral as a background. It was quite relaxing to spend time here on a busy day. Would definitely add to anybody's to-do list for those visiting Geneva.

What a lovely park so close to the city. It’s free to visit and there are swings for children and an area for dogs to be off leash (it’s not fenced so your dog needs to be well trained). There is a lovely cafe where you can dine outside under umbrellas and really enjoy the peacefulness of the park. If you are interested in Roman ruins there is a small part of the park that has some ruins.
