Our first official mountain hike in Taiwan! Reaching the highest peak in Taipei is an achievement for us. There are a number of ways to reach the peak but we chose the "moderate" level of trail on our way up which is the Miaopu trail and then went down via Xiaoyoukeng trail. Choosing the Miaopu trail, there were definitely steep stairs so it was nice to have a trekking pole or two to aid our hike. Fortunately, the weather was really good on the day of our trip. It was just cold enough and foggy when we reached the peak but the sky cleared up by noon so we got a full 360 view of the other peaks and surrounding areas. I would say this mountain is good for beginners up to the novice level of hikers who want to have a quick getaway adventure from the city of Taipei. We would definitely love to hike more mountains...
Read moreMount Qixing's main peak is the highest point in Taipei City, standing at an impressive 1,120 meters. The trail from Xiaoyoukeng Visitor Center to and from the main peak covers a distance of about 4 kilometers. The path features many stone steps, some of which are quite steep. Along the way, you'll pass through sections of lush sword bamboo forest.
The scenery throughout the hike is breathtaking, and many hikers choose to climb the mountain twice to fully enjoy the experience at the main peak. Before you begin your ascent, take a moment to visit the nearby sulfur crater at the visitor center. It's a fascinating natural feature that adds to the uniqueness of this hike.
The well-maintained trail and stunning views make this hike highly recommended for nature enthusiasts and adventure...

We met a very kind Taiwanese who gave us tips on making hikes... bring some salt candy in case you get cramps, bring enough water, etc. My kids in their 20s could have scaled the peak easily but i definitely slowed them down a lot due to my less than ideal leg. We made it to the peak and it's really a spectacular view up there. After resting a while, we took the route to lengsuikeng. Thoroughly enjoyed the breathtaking views along the way up and down. It's definitely worth going! Make sure you go on a sunny day so that you have clear view of...
