Beautiful bay and nice resort. Food and drinks relatively expensive, but the choices are quite good and include some excellent local dishes. The boat trip round the island is very good. The walk from the resort to the viewing point over Tonsai Bay is also worth doing. The route that takes you through the village behind the resort still shows some evidence of the destruction caused by the tsunami. It's no surprise to learn that the death toll on this island alone is estimated at 4,000 souls. The walk to the viewing point is possible in flip-flops, but shoes would make it easier. Take water as there's quite a hike through natural vegetation. Both of the pools at the resort have plenty of sunbeds and many of them are shaded. The rooms are built to a very high standard and offer a pleasant alternative to the sun and heat of the day. The shallow, sandy bay is busy with speed boats and long-tails that provide ferry services and boat tours around Phi Phi Island. This is a very relaxing place to visit and it works well as a short stop for a few days or as the base for a longer stay with excursions to Phuket, Krabi and some of the other islands. As with all of Thailand, the staff are lovely, very helpful and genuinely interested in making your stay enjoyable and...
Read moreAfter walking 2km from the north I discovered this beautiful bay with no one in it. I went for swim only to be told by the only other person around …. a muppet in the blue uniform that I can’t swim there, just for guests. Whatever. Not going to let that spoil my day. I go to the restaurant and order lunch and a cocktail for the same muppet to speak to the waiter and told me to leave. You have to be joking? Make me feel like a criminal. Refusing a paying customer. That spoiled my day. Muppet told me I could walk along the beach to leave. World has gone mad. If I ever return to PhiPhi to stay again I’ll be sure to...
Read moreThe beach looks nice and it's pretty big. The problem is that the local resort just occupied and closed it for everyone except their guests. They literally put thugs at the entrance which will stop you and tell you to go away.
Just look at the picture I took: the red area is private for this single hotel guests only and the green area is public for all other hotels around the island. What nonsense is this. I hope local authorities will do...
